Something worth looking out for in the small villages surrounding the larger named vineyards in France are the nondescript mini markets. At the back (usually) there'll be a couple of iffy looking IBC's of wine for a fill your own container type thing. Don't be put off. They invariably contain the over production from the nearby Château. When they've bottled their legal limits under 1st and 2nd labels this is where the rest ends up so that the locals get a bit of a bargain. Château Lafite at €1 a gallon. I am currently working with a French student. She tells me that there are " designated " or " known" roads near to vineyards or other drinking areas that the Police keep clear of, don't patrol, as it is accepted that people drive down them whilst over the limit. Live and let live. Another fantastic example of French pragmatism and rule by the people. " Working with a french student".....yeah riiight ! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/kwfoKwtHI0jglJZ4qZf6.gif)

That's just reminded me, I've been here a few times groobox.co.uk/field-kitchen and they always serve local produce, one time they served some wine from Staffordshire there last year, Grove estate I think it was, was nice with the food.

There's a similar thing in Italy. We found a few small shops in cities and got local Chiantis for a euro a litre. They're always away from tourists and have a fat version of De Niro serving, he knows all the local growers. Just have to look up "vino sfuso" on Google Maps.

Reading the Epigenetics Revolution by N Carey recommended by civilestokie I just found out the liver is supposed to produce a certain protein (among a lot of other things) to break down alcohol. It said if you don't drink alcohol the production will be low.
I wonder if it's the same protein we have to break down medicine of different kind.
Since I down drink ... alcohol ... The best alcohol free alternative to wine must be pomegranate juice. They can be either very strong and sweet, very bitter, or something in between.
