I'm on Wenger's side of the argument. I don't think players should be given time to set up a throw in, I want it back in play within seconds. And keepers well I'd have someone standing next to the goal with a gun and shoot them the amount of time they spend fucking about stopping the game. Same with corners and free kicks? Why should fans have to sit and wait for two centre backs to casually jog half the pitch. Surely, it should be taken quickly or a goal kick should be awarded. In both the lads and girls football up with us it's kick ins until the kids turn 10 I think. The wee lass for the girls bangs them in quick and causes absolute bedlam whilst the coaches for the lads at training makes them do it within 5 seconds or possession turns over. In a game, either boys or girls, the opposition cotton on to it getting banged down the line so drop deep meaning there is space to just knock it in short and get the game going again. Kick ins at professional level will never happen but would be a total game changer - defenses couldn't just squeeze up and if the attacking team got it back in play quickly enough could stick it over the top. Would have put a clock on it to save teams just waiting until their big units trundled up from the back.

I'm crap at rugby too so could be havering bollocks but think it was introduced to reduce scrums, improve counter attack options and generally just speed the game up. Essentially if the attacking team are in their own half they can bunt it out so long as it bounces at least once and goes out within 22 yards of the oppositions try line then you get the throw in rather than the opposition. In football it would be like when the game is boring as fuck with everyone playing passing drills in the center of the pitch then the CB thinking 'fuck this' and hoofing it out between the touch line and edge of the 18 yard box and his team got the throw - would have been ace in the Delap days but Wenger will never go for it. Think the last major changes have been VAR and the pass back rule - the fundamentals haven't changed in over a century despite the build and stamina of the players changing inexorably. I'm on Wenger's side of the argument. I don't think players should be given time to set up a throw in, I want it back in play within seconds. And keepers well I'd have someone standing next to the goal with a gun and shoot them the amount of time they spend fucking about stopping the game. I think it's equally boring watching someone dry a ball with a towel as it is watching 20+ passes going absolutely nowhere as at least when Delap was launching them in there was usually an element of drama and excitement to it. It'll never happen but if it did both defenses would have to sit deeper to save folk banging it over the top so would open games up a bit - it's turgid stuff at the moment when the ball, for the brief time it is in-play, is predominantly being knocked around the middle third. Making it 10 v 10 would open things up too as the pitch sizes were agreed over 100 years ago when players were smaller, less professional and less fit. Must be loads of stuff they could do but innovation only seems to extend in making more money/ revenue than the quality of what is actually being viewed.

The one that pisses me off... is when a player has the ball (most likely in his own half) and is going nowhere, and he has an opposition player behind him.... So he goes down at the faintest of touches... And the Ref blows for a foul EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! I'd love a Ref to see it for what it is, just for once, and play on!!! This. It’s penalising good pressing from the team trying to get the ball back. Problem is with lack of replays in the lower leagues they’re always going to go with the easy option and blow up for a foul.

It really gets my back up!!! I recall it happening here twice last season.... Well, twice that stick out in my mind!!! Once against Norwich (0-0) when we were pressing them late on.... And the other against West Brom (1-2) again, late on, when we were pressing for an equaliser!!! Both times were so frustrating and infuriating!!!

On the back of BJR's gripe about "taking one for the team" on the matchday thread. My personal gripe is players calling for a throw in when the liars now full well it's just come off some part of their body. It can't help the referee knowing that potentially all 22 players can't be trusted. Footballers, managers, pundits, fans are all generally without a moral compass when it comes to their team (or preferred team) gaining “Something for nothing” out of a game. Football is not an honest game, the opportunity for cheats to prosper at all levels is massive. To be frank, fans are no better than the players. Most are quite happy when their team unfairly benefits from any situation. It has gotten much worse in recent years especially at the high level. I think it’s part of the reason people fall out of love with the game.

The minute our team benefits from a poor decision we are all, to a man, celebrating said fuck up/dodgy ref decision/ dive for a pen etc. We just want to win games and that will never change
