There’s also a book about his time in the Potteries too. The glow from Shelton Bar at night inspired the idea of the Red Weed in ‘War of the Worlds’. If I recall correctly Trentham Gardens is also mentioned in the same novel. |

If I recall correctly Trentham Gardens is also mentioned in the same novel. The short story you refer to is set around the Shelton Iron and Steel works and I think is called “The Cone”. It’s well worth reading if you think you’ll like a gruesome story of a love triangle ending in a grotesque murder at the steelworks!
