John Coates needs to realise he can't run a football club and employ someone to do it for him but it's his toy so until he wakes up we are screwed. Has the club not taken the relevant steps this summer to suggest they are attempting to create the right structure? This summer the owners stepped up a level since relegation by creating a more modern footballing business structure. We are being punished for not having another left back and centre back in the squad right now and a crazy amount of injuries, an abnormal amount. Who here has any faith in Tricky Ricky and his mate Dave???? And aren't they just Niels mates???? More jobs for the boys shit. That isn't what we think or asked for at all! It's one of the main reasons we will indefinitely fail. Manager running a club doesn't work anymore.

The club have gone down the exact direction a cabal of posters have been urging for years - a technical director and a head of recruitment. Now another cabal are urging another change in direction. Too much change in my humble opinion. We don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water again. My hope if AN is sacked is that Jared Dublin Stays. The majority of his signings I feel will prove excellent value in the long term. We need a coach to work with the players we have with a couple of decent additions in January.

No matter which way you slice it, it's become increasingly evident that this club simply will not progress under the current ownership. They need removing before the damage they're inflicting via their continual mismanagement of this famous old club becomes too much for any other party (with the slightest of clues of how to run a football club moderately successfully) to turn around. I'll get called out and mocked for this stance no doubt but believe you me, there's only one way we're heading with 'The Family' at the helm. Who would have sufficient football business acumen to counter lack of free funding our club? Nobody, and whose fault is that? They're absolutely appalling owners and have us over a fucking barrel. As a Stoke fan it seems as though the current choices are 'tug that forelock and merely be happy that the club exists' or fuck off until the bunch of clowns that 'run' the club finally fuck off and let someone else who has the slightest of fucking clues (and deep pockets) have a go. The former might be an option for the swathes of unambitious, 'be grateful we have a club at all' faction but not for me.

She doesn’t have to run it, just appoint competent people to do it for her with a proper plan and structure in place. Won’t happen mind. You assume she’s immune to her brother’s input with doesn’t bear scrutiny. He could cause her a lot more problems then she could cause him. Business Oatcake style as per.

Ideally I’d keep Jared and get rid of the other two. The left field signings have shown plenty of potential. Ricky Martin and Alex Neil wouldn’t have been my choice for the other jobs but I’m still unsure how good or bad they are. I suspect the project needs a brave manager and I’m not sure we’ve got one. Happy to give it a little more time.

If the club ends up in the shit, or deeper in the shit they will be desperate and the type of manager they go for doesn't typically like the structure we've currently got, and that's before you get to fact they are Neil's men. Therefore they will have to oblige and bend to the demands of any incoming dinosaur who "wants to run the show".

I don't see how this is turned around without a massive U turn and some absolute surprises pulled out of the hat. As others have said, and I'm probably most disappointed about this....Niel seems terrified and clueless! The complete opposite I thought he would be. He's lost in all this change and he has no idea what to do. That's enough reason for change for me, but I have very little faith in the owners getting it right sadly. I am pretty sure I said this last time. I was happy with the O'Niell change but looking back he was much better than what we currently have 🤷♂️, bizarrely.

I don’t think the players he was bringing in gave much cause for optimism. Given a similar negative net spend I’m far more optimistic about the current bunch, just not sure how much AN had to do with them. Only a progressive manager will improve the options we have available with hopefully more to come. I’m not sure AN’s the man but I’m really sure a TP like figure is not. Easy game Not!

I am absolutely fine with "The Family" running the club as they see fit. It's their money and I hope they keep on financing the club for generations to come.

Where are you drawing this optimism from? It's like your are basing your entire conclusion from a 'gut feeling' because our performances and the managers lack of understanding of who to play in what position etc suggests that they aren't actually good enough, don't have the qualities he was hoping for, and aren't actually very good in their respective supposed positions. 3 from 18 look like potentially being good signings, another 2 or 3 look like average mid table champ players and the rest can only be considered failures. We look like a relegation team, injuries or not.

Think she could get someone like she’s does at BET365 to do the donkey work and be in the background calling the shots. John obviously… is being blagged and mopping it up. There’s obviously a big problem.. AN, rowatt, MON are not bad managers, but all failed and failing. The problem is deeper Bit like a Tony Scholes type then...FFS he was better than the muppets in charge now..

Can't she just have a word in her brothers ear, then tell him on how to run a successful buiseness?
Trouble is, if there is nowt between the ears, it will just go straight through.

I hated the lack of ambition today but actually thought the players deserved a lot of credi. The game plan was wank probably understandably so.

I am absolutely fine with "The Family" running the club as they see fit. It's their money and I hope they keep on financing the club for generations to come. Whilst not wishing to overtly offend, that's an absolutely pathetic attitude to have and one that is symptomatic of the 'know your place' outlook that holds this city and its inhabitants back. I don't know about you but I'm a great believer in of the adage "you only get what you'll settle for", and I'm certainly not going to settle for the utter shite the ownership have been spoonfeeding us for the past 6.5 years. In my opinion, they're lucky to have gotten away with what they have done for as long as they have.

A lot of sense and sensibility in that post. Even though I've seen coates family 1 era... I still wouldn't swap ownership right now. Let's face it there isn't go to be a multi million takeover from the Middle or Far East for a medium sized provincial club like ours. Our time may come again soon.

I’ve no idea how BET365 is run. But obviously she employs the right people and knows how to deal and align with them. Her brother doesn’t have a clue how to run this football club. Sad truth Her brother John is the joint 'Chief Executive' at Bet365, so does have a great deal of experience on running a successful business.

As other posters have said, it doesn't seem (at least from the outside looking in) that Denise has ever cared that much about football.
It's unlikely she is going to get more interested now that we are a bottom half Championship club than she was when we were a vaguely consistent top-half PL club.
Honestly, I slight fear I have is if Denise becomes overwhelmingly less interested in the club as we become less of a vehicle for Bet365 sponsorship, and as the laws and regulations around advertising gambling in sports begin to change in the next decade or so.

I never bother to read these sort of threads because we have the richest ownership outside of the premier league and as a club and city we are despised by anyone born more than 10 miles from the bells of Shelton Church spire.
But crack on with these various fanciful delusions. The internet allows that sort of lack of judgement to get an airing I guess.
Incoming : “little old stoke don’t even think that a billionaire Chinese conglomerate have not seen the opportunity to invest in a club that have won one cup in 150 years and are a massive money pit”.

We’re only a massive money pit because we’ve been negligently run for the last 6/7 years. Plenty of clubs go through what we went through without the luxury of being able to write off 9 figures of debt. And for the most part they outperform us on the pitch too without those luxuries.

I think that it is widely accepted that Denise Coates has little interest in the football club.
She runs a highly successful business, so I doubt she is in any rush to get involved in a football club that has no real pull for her. There is no advantage or benefit for her or the business.
The money that the Coates family invests into the football club is not the issue. It is the fact that for nearly a decade there has been a catalogue of poor decisions made.
I was hoping that the introduction of Tricky Ricky, Simon King, and Jared Dublin would help. The jury is still out at the moment.

When they needed to get outside investment in - and when it was far easier to do so - they didn't. We were a top 10 Premier League club able to attract Champions League winners - and they got firstly complacent, and then panicked and gave a fuckwit a £50m warchest. Companies would have been lining up to invest in us in 2016......

When good old Peter departs this mortal coil I feel the Club will spiral downwards.
I believe he still pulls the strings and John is the puppet. I dont think Denise gives two hoots about Stoke. She probably feels obliged to support her fathers love for the club. When he is gone things will change.
New ownership at some point is probably inevitable. Let’s just hope it’s not Mike Ashley eh.

The sensible bit - summarily disregarding the £100’s of millions they have invested in the club, the ground, training facilities etc is disrespectful and offensive. Which alternative owner would do this? If you think the Coates don’t care for our club, what would a US or Far Eastern consortium be like? It’s not like they can spend loads more money due to FFP, and if it didn’t work out they would cut and run asap. I don’t like our trajectory, but to suggest the owners don’t care and haven’t been generous in the extreme is not true. Also, it’s their asset and have every right to deal with it as they see fit when they see fit. It’s only my opinion but I don’t see them as the issue ( they have tried various styles of manager and approaches - ok they haven’t worked so far (except during the entire Premiership decade when i suspect you weren’t posting rubbish like this because of their stewardship and generosity). so please enlighten us all, which owners would you like to see, where would they come from and what investment levels would you expect to see?

Let's not forget, these are same owners who've taken us to the 3rd tier twice before; and have seriously flirted with 3rd tier even since becoming billionaires! (and may flirt with it again this season) These are the same owners who presided over our lowest league finish in our entire history! They are fucking clueless and have always been totally reliant on an inspirational manager galvanising the club. But their overall record suggests that's more luck than judgement. If you buy enough tickets, eventually you win the raffle. Peter Coates coming out with his infamous "I don't see what all the fuss is about" when we'd been rapidly declining for close to a year already, showed that he has a shockingly low level of intuition for what he's seeing on a football pitch. They might have some business successes in their lives (although it's widely accepted that the biggest of all is the work of the one family member who isn't interested in SCFC) but I genuinely don't believe they understand football itself any more deeply than some ten-a-penny shit-talker on this forum. Hopefully, the restructuring we've been doing of late will provide latent benefits, and we are now fairly close to the end of this stubbornly dogshit period in our recent history. But I personally don't believe AN will survive to the january window; and then we're back to hoping JC can finally land a winning raffle ticket.
