Harry Maguire’s treatment prime example. It’s disgusting. And a lot of cretins on social media follow suit. He said “of note”. He's a very high profile player, is he /was he England captain, not sure on that one? Good player and had a poor spell but so many quick to jump on the bandwagon in the media and social media of course

Hearing how Hoddle makes me understand why Southgate is the way he is with Maguire and the like.
His man management was dreadful. The guy was 23 at the time and he threw him to the lions. Wanker.

Two episodes in and I’m really enjoying it.Ive always been quite ambivalent towards him but to see the absolute shit this poor fucker was put through after his sending off, is appalling.Booed relentlessly for months every time he kicked a ball,I personally just watched on at the time totally oblivious to what he must have been going through. Other things I picked up on was his stupid wife a)telling him on the eve of two massive games she was pregnant then the second time that he’d better not miss the birth of the child ffs. b) Gary Neville is a decent bloke. How many countries treat their star players the way they do in England? Press and fans alike then they moan when they fall short again. The way the press treated Bobby Robson then was all ..Please stay Bobby etc after Italy. Beckham, Rooney etc they wouldn't leave alone. I remember the day before their first World Cup game in France, NOTW had a pic of Seaman's ex wife and a story that he didn't get her tickets with a glum face. That was the best they could dig up to undermine a player on the eve of the tournament We love to build people up then knock them down in this country.

Really enjoyed it and thought the dynamic of his relationship with Posh was especially interesting. They seemed to skirt around it even in the time given to it but reckon he defo seemed to have cheated. She obviously wasn't keen on Madrid and kept the kids at home to begin with but in fairness it looked a total fucking nightmare. Can see she's moved out in the end and wouldn't be surprised if played more of a part in the LA thing than discussed but for him to then fuck off to Milan and Paris it's no wonder she'd have the hump. However, massive respect for him not really giving a fuck about anyone and anything because he wanted to play in the world cup. Seemed genuine enough and I'd watch his weird grill OCD live streamed to be honest as that was genuinely therapeutic. Him and his coloured co-ordinated t-shirt thing got me...... sad to say I do the same, in terms of having the t-shirt underneath showing- ( I bet Becks doesnt use a the width of a used razor blade to measure the distance though ) followed by co-ordinated socks and pants drawer...... ( Until I saw that I thought I was the only idiot doing that....... ) Id love to see his cutlery drawer and compare......( HATE to see an untidy cutelry drawer !)

Completely forgot how much i fucking disliked hoddle until i watched the first episode. Talk about throwing him under the bus. Great documentary. Hilarious moment when Victoria claimed to be working class and Becks was listening, told her to be honest and then she admitted her dad drove her to school in Rolls Royce!! However, I was appalled to see the full level of abuse Beckham faced after the 98 World Cup for months on end. I didn't realise how bad it got and how long it lasted. Hoddle loaded the bus full of bricks, threw Beckham under it and reversed over him several times. Disgraceful lack of care for his players. Beckham was only 23 and this will have scarred him for life. Beckham's mental resilience is astonishing. I am very impressed that he came back so strong and had such a great career. I wish him and his family all the best.

And to be so successful post playing is a real testament to the man’s determination to succeed. Not watched any of it yet but looking forward to it from the comments

Seemed genuine enough and I'd watch his weird grill OCD live streamed to be honest as that was genuinely therapeutic. My take on the Rebecca Loos situation was that he did actually admit to it in the documentary without actually saying it. He basically gave the reasons why it happened and then said he did not like seeing Posh hurt that bad. I'm coming towards the end of episode 4 but what a documentary. Its bloody brilliant. What a top & nice bloke he is and until I watched it this week, I always thought we would win the World Cup under Glenn Hoddle & was gutted when he got sacked from the England but now I think Glenn Hoddle is a total cunt

Having thought more on it, I am pretty convinced that his OCD is a result of the treatment he got by Hoddle and the aftermath of that sending off.
That being said his strength of character is incredible and most would have folded under that pressure never to return

Haha, how bad were LA Galaxy when he signed? I think I could have got a contract there.
Victoria is an odd one. She doesn’t seem warm, or particularly interesting. Just there, being a bit vacant and miserable. The opposite of him really. Maybe that’s why they work. Or do they? Is it all for show/convenience/business?
Good watch. You don’t win what he did by just being a poster boy. The Real Madrid comeback was good, but maybe more dramatic than it actually was. He did win POTS that year though.

Haven’t really read the thread and haven’t started on the doc but there are a few players I can always go back to watching YouTube highlights reels of.. Ronaldinho’s one, then original Ronaldo.. Marcelo pinging passes for Madrid, Juan Roman Riquelme, Berbatov, Modric.. Beckham is right up there. I’m not sure there’s ever been as precise and consistent a crosser/long passer. His crossing and free kicks for ManU were incredible, but when Madrid played him centrally, and deep, the balls he was playing in for R9 and Zidane were just sublime. Nobody should doubt his football ability or his galáctico status (football-wise)

The trouble is, it sells. The state of our media says as much about us as a country as it does about the media itself. If it didn't shift papers or get clicks they wouldn't write it. Spot on Mr Roar. Sadly that stuff, No mark from Hollyoaks peels off on the beach Love Island etc is what their readers want The fact that the Sun has by far the biggest circulation in the country,is a damming indictment on the intelligence of our populace.

Yep ,trash sells to trash The story of the Hitler diaries summed The Sun up. Instead of the rocket and potential dismissal he was expecting he got a ...so what? The newspaper sold more copies than ever and gained an extra X amount of readers as a result. It doesn't matter what we print, it's what we sell.

It doesn't matter what we print, it's what we sell. The Sun has succeeded in doing that weird thing that very other media, print or digital do, which is to rake in readers despite what it prints. I think many many people who buy The Sun know it's a vile rag but weirdly continue to do so. It's got some kind of Stockholm effect hold over hundreds of thousands of people which in turn makes the editorial team think they can continue to print what they want. When you take a dispassionate look at it, and all the shit it has printed over the last forty years, it is a genuinely dangerous newspaper.

Just watched first episode.
Some people suggest we'd have beaten Argentina in 98 if it hadn't been for the red card. The reality is between 30-45 minutes we'd been pegged back. The pressure we were under culminated in their equaliser. The red card meant we had to stabilise and become much more cautious and we did it well. With 11 men we were getting overran.

The press in England is shocking the way it treats anyone of note. The likes of The Sun looking for dirt then making it up if nothing of note. All over the team then on the eve of a big game They once printed the number of Lancaster Gate as a headline for readers to call and get Bobby Robson fired 2 years later they were all over Saint Bobby No argument there, they've been disgusting over the years. Was just disputing the notion it doesn't happen in other countries. It does happen Spanish players routinely get absolutely ripped apart by their press, but that doesn't pardon our press which is sick and breeds nothing but prejudice.

That being said his strength of character is incredible and most would have folded under that pressure never to return Or it could be something that was always with him and one of the reasons why his set pieces were so bloody accurate. Have we had anyone in the last 3 decades come close? There’s no way that it’s not a part of that. He must have had to practice over and over and….. to get them so unbelievably consistent.
