Still thought we looked poor in midfield in parts but subs made a huge difference. Travers Hoever Wilmot Mcnally Junior Pearson Burger Bae Leris Wesley (Lowe sub on 60) Hacks It will be this team, but Laurent in for Bae. The sooner people accept Laurent is not getting dropped, the better. I think Bae looked very productive coming in on the LW for Haks, so I think AN will keep him on the bench for that purpose. There's no other enticing alternative to start ahead of Laurent otherwise - DJ unfortunately seems just another end of a shitty stick. Sidibe isn't really a box-to-box type. I agree he's made him captain and isn't going to drop him until he has to e.g injury. I don't think he was awful yesterday and is clearly short of confidence like most of the squad. We need to get behind him show him the love so he can relax as when he's good he is very good same goes for baker I couldn't quite believe we had a player as good as him when he first joined

Thought Pearson played well today. He seems to do ok if he keeps himself under control Engineered himself a little break didn’t he? Maybe that’s why [b a little harsh

According to nixon we’ve failed in our talks for Clark on a free Amazing really maybe we are being too cheap maybe we are maxed out re FFP you'd think the player would take the offer though, surely something is better than nothing? I’d imagine he was on very favourable wages at Castle, maybe he’s priced himself out? Would’ve been a superb signing imo.

I like him as a player mind you and he should keep some fire in his belly, just maybe don’t collect yellows like Pokémon.

He pressed and moved forward with the ball well, without barely entering the final third. He lost out on the one tackle he made all game! For the most part, he was a passenger. What better show of love is there than giving him the armband and starting when he doesn’t deserve it? I don’t doubt there is a player in there, but he needs to step up. It can’t be as easy as showing him vids of his 5 brilliant games for us last season and telling him that if he does that every game, he’ll be in the Premier League next season with or without us!

To be honest there's quite a few who haven't deserved to wear the shirt in general in this bad run. Hopefully this is the kick up the arse the lads need, for the first time in ages there looked a togetherness which is dead important

.....................Travers...................... Junior.........McNally......Wilmot.........Gooch ............Pearson..........Burger.............. Haksa................Johnson..............Vidigal .....................Wesley...................... Subs: Bonham, Hoever, Laurent, Thompson, Jonho, Leris, Lowe. I guess Campbell, Mmaee, Stevens and Rose are all still injured? Gooch came off injured too I know, but he walked off without limping. After that Neil has said he probably won't start so there must be at least one change in my tem.

I'm absolutely amazed that Junho isn't the first name on the team sheet for a few on here. 2 fantastic assists yesterday and is going to be some player for the future. He's by far the most naturally gifted footballer we've got in my opinion. At least deserves to start!

Not having a proper alternative to Pearson (AN doesn't seem to think Burger is a 6 from the evidence so far) is a worry for me. Off the ball he's all over the place and he lacks composure on it unless the game is at walking pace. It's a criticism I've aimed towards Thompson for a while now so I've got to be fair and call it how I see it. I’ve been saying this for weeks on here and have been told I was stupid. He shows for the ball when the full backs have it and then points down the line to them.

Depends how short the contract was, could be a case of him not being arsed to trek to stoke for a couple of months.

Travers
Hoever McNally Wilmot Tchamadeu
Pearson Burger Bae
Leris Lowe Vidigal
But of course it'll be Laurent for Bae, Wes for Lowe and Haks for Vidi, and that's also ok! Nice to have options to put on up front and in midfield.
The defence looks thin though: Not a single true defender to put on, only attacking fullbacks. If one of the CBs gets injured, we'd have to put Junior in centrally. I think he can do it, at least he has the physicality.

If Laurent starts then AN is back on my shit list. I doubt he is capable of dropping either Laurent or Campbell when fit. 2 of our worst performers this season.

Not sure if Bristol was the breaking of a brave new dawn or a one off fluke against the head.
Hopefully the former.
I suppose if nothing else it will give the team belief that we can dig ourselves out when we find ourselves in extremis.

I just can’t see us winning this one.
Soton have a very good attack, I think they will score at least 2, so it’s whether we have our shooting boots on or not.
If not, I fear it could be a long night.

I think we've got to ride the Lowe train. He'll be buzzing and the crowd will be right behind him.
And if it's him or Wes/Gayle, it's not exactly a leap of faith.
With Burger back on the pitch, it's hard to make a case for Laurent, and it'll be interesting to see how much longer Neil carves out a captain exception.
Especially in a 3-game week - with this looking by far the more winnable of the two remaining games.
Gallagher suggested there was a chance Vidigal will be back, but we'll see. Not on the bench on Saturday, and being fit to start on Tuesday is probably unlikely.

Neil can be criticised for caring too much about adapting to the opposition’s style rather just playing our game but there’s an argument for it here.
Martin’s teams are notorious for taking risks at the back and the better teams have been able to take advantage of that this season.
We need a forward line that will press them into mistakes and take advantage of those opportunities when they come.
I’d go with Leris-Haks-Vidigal (if fit) with Bae to get a decent run from the bench.
