Was kind of hoping we'd have seen an early annoucement today saying he'd signed so he'd be available for this weekend. Does anyone know the latest with Onomah?

If we don't make an offer for Onomah I'd say we've got a deal on the table for Smallbone. Zero chance of that, he's in Southampton's plans big time for this season, played every friendly in the middle of the park. They're very excited about him for some reason  |

You can't really coach what he has and that is the knack of arriving in good positions at the right time. When he joins the dots, which he will, he'll be a pretty devastating midfielder at this level. |

Potentially, but he was mostly miles off the pace for us. In fact he was pretty fucking dreadful for a good while. Hopefully he works it out and comes good but Saints may well have to be a bit patient |

If he can improve his finishing he'll be excellent at this level. |

EFL rules on player registration 43.8 Subject to Regulations 43.2, 43.3 and 57, a Player will only be eligible to play in a match organised by The League if the appropriate forms for his registration or the transfer of his registration (including, for the avoidance of doubt, Temporary Loan Transfers) are: 43.8.1 submitted (in such manner as the League shall specify from time to time) to and received by The League by 12.00 noon on the day prior to the date of such match; and 43.8.2 confirmed by the League to be in order. |

AN might be trying to get him to earn a contract rather than just offer him one because the season is starting. Maybe it's a test of his desire to play for us and to see if he has it in him to push himself to improve. He could be one of those players that doesn't hang around after training and AN has his doubts.
Alternatively he could be waiting it out for other offers which he is entitled to do but I prefer players that want to play football not just chase the money. Not many clubs would likely offer him much more than we would.

I doubt he will want to remain "a trialist" for much longer, as he won't be getting paid. I reckon as soon as he gets a decent offer from a club, he'll sign a contract, whether that be us or any other team at this level or above.
