I want to know more about this. How much is 500 SEK worth? Is it a common note for people to keep. Where did she find it and why the hell didn't she keep it.

That's not weird, it's the polite thing to do. I heard about this years ago and plan to do it myself when/if I get to that point of knowing it's just around the corner.

Where did she find it and why the hell didn't she keep it. 500 SEK = 38 GBP 13800 SEK = 1062 GBP Every note and coin we usually keep, if they're ours ... I have no idea where she found it but it wasn't hers. I think she just wanted to give it back and now she's punished due to some stupid swedish law. Main question is: Is the law the same in England?

I think technically any money you find should be handed in the police station. If someone walked in to hand in say x2 £20 notes, which is almost equivalent to the 500 SEK, the police officer would probably think they are deranged and no they wouldn't get a fine.

That's my point. Giving it back or not, when you do it in Sweden but wait just a liiiittle bit too long, you get punished worse than a car theft or a minor assault.

Typically swedish to not do any advertisement for the National Day pastry we used to have.
National Day is today here, on the 6th of June.
Are they still for sale 2023? Have to get out now and figure it out.
I know it consists of a mazarin base, strawberries and lemon balm or whipped cream together with a swedish flag stuck into it.
Otherwise I have to come up with a solution.
Swedish Women Cup Final on tv at 3 p.m. Hammarby-Häcken. It's 1X2 a wide open game on the football coupon.

Strangely Musik, your thread on weird Swedish behaviour reminded me of a timelss sketch from the 1980's show, "Not the Nine 0 Clock news" which featured a scene set with some typical adult Swedes in a chalet home. It was a parody and not intended to offend, but aside from them all being naked, contained the memorable line, delivered in a Swedish accent:: "Why don't we go for a drive. We can crash the Volvo. It is perfectly safe!"
It was funny at the time!

A chalet is a typical home in the Alps I reckon. The nudity in the 70's/80's might have been correctly portrayed though ... 😜

I remember when I was on an island in Sweden that the ferry trip to the government controlled off licence (Systembolaget) was a big adventure. Back then the nearest Systembolaget on the mainland only opened once a week. You could buy alcohol but not be seen purchasing it or carrying it around without a plain cover. I seem to remember that I had to book an order in advance and not just turn up and expect to get anything. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Systembolaget

I swear I remember some delivery issue so they ended up chucking some crates of beer cans off the back of the iron ore train as it trundled past one day. There were massive snowdrifts by the tracks to stop damage. The system is weird but waiting for the next train certainly built anticipation. EDIT: Colorado is similar. Wonder if it's the snow.

Neither, it is for under my arms.

The two Ronnies once did a sketch "guide to Swedish" where a man wishes to buy some eggs. It effectively went along the lines of:
"F U N E X?"
Try reading it aloud.

Close to midnight report
I went out today to see if any food shop or bakery had some National Day pastry. But they hadn't.
So I just made my own kind 5 mins before midnight. Better late than never.
Roll cake w strawberry jam and whipped cream at the base. On top some slices of bourbon vanilla ice cream, decorated with pieces of pineapple and blueberries.
Blue and yellow.
Thanks for the inspiration, str8outtahampton!

Normally a Swedish National Day pastry has a mazarin base, on top of that strawberries plus lemon balm or whipped cream. Since the roll cake I bought had strawberry jam and whipped cream I was close already there.

Typically Swedish these days according to our Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson yesterday is to be transformed to a completely different kind of country, from Sweden to some latino-american state.
Worst in Europe. He refered to the gang shootings all around the country now in broad daylight with automatic military weapons, the same kind used in the Ukraine-Russia war at this moment.
We're reminded not once a year, once per month and now not even once a week. Soon on a daily basis.

Greta Thunberg will be charged for some climate activity in Skåne, Sweden. She wants charging! Preferably with a cattle prod Maybe it's charged "with" and not charged "for" ... Prepositions can be tough even in the native language. An electric shock, that is.
