Turned into a nice anti neil thread Incredible But unfortunately not surprising Some of the selections, subs, formations were crazy but I still have faith. He knows who all the shit players are who need replacing no one else does. Let him get his own players and let’s take it from there. Some of the stuff said about him on this thread ins not necessarily true. Just a chance to have a dig

Turned into a nice anti neil thread Incredible It isn't anti-Neil. There's concern that he alongside Martin, are being allowed (by woefully weak ownership) to shape the club in their image on the back of a season that leaves much to be desired; meddling in the one relatively bright spot the clubs had in the last 5 years. This isn't Guardiola or Ferguson overseeing wholesale changes on the back of enormous success. Or even Bielsa implementing a belief or philosophy in a way of playing (Neil can't pick between a back 3 or 4 after three quarters of a season). The manager finds himself in roughly the same position as MON was in heading into last season and there's no guarantee he will still even be here by Christmas. Personally I think the concerns expressed are valid.

Turned into a nice anti neil thread Incredible Who gives a fuck about Neil, seriously? Pro, anti, it doesn’t matter. He’s a jobbing coach who’ll be gone in a year or so like every other manager - exactly why all this turnover and upheaval on his watch is so concerning.

This is quite concerning, the only stable part of the club that gave us some bright lights over the last 5 years. I hope they have some gems of coaches lined up and not another bus load of mates that follow them around.

I can see both sides of the argument here. On the face of it allowing a manager and his sidekicks to have the power to alter the structure of every facet of the club is madness, antiquated and extremely risky. If it goes wrong and his shown the door by Christmas then where does it leave us?
On the flip side the club needs change, it needs redirecting and someone has to do it. We want change, a vision of where we are going and ultimately we want to see sustainable progress. To do it means tough decisions. I don’t really know enough about the academy to comment with insight.
However, it’s such an incredibly risky way of going about it. We have to get it right. This next few weeks are pivotal. Absolutely crucial. And there’s so much to do. I’m going to give them a chance because ultimately what will be will be. Saying that after seeing what Neil produced last season it’s one hell of a leap of faith.
Please, finally get it right Stoke.

You can say that about any manager Neil finds himself in a different position to when he took over As he can get his own players not the shit ones left by the previous manager

Apparently a load of the academy are leaving. All seems very drastic given how well it’s done. 🤷♂️ Has it?

Your wanting changes in the club on one hand and on the other when things change you don’t like it 🤷♀️ I wouldn’t say any players out of youth set up has been amazing

They did seem to have a very bad season (the U21s) last year. Didn’t they finish second bottom? I know that they had a young team etc but that’s hardly “doing well”. That said, as I’ve highlighted earlier in this thread, I don’t believe that player development should be dictated by AN in any way (if it is indeed true that RM is getting rid of Russel because they don’t get along).

How well is it really working though? Baring the players we signed as 17/18 year olds like Souttar, Collins and Campbell, no one has come through and become a regular first team player. We’re miles behind clubs like Blackburn, Birmingham and Middlesbrough who seem to bring academy players through every season that play regularly in the Championship. I was thinking this. I'm open to change and will hopefully see a better production line than we've seen ourselves in the last few years. I keep hearing that the academies producing but who really have we produced that's gone to be a staple & secure player with Stoke, or has left us after a meaningful contribution to bigger and better things? Even during the Premier League years we had Wilko, Dicko & latterly Edwards. More recent Souttar & Collins. Yes Tyrese has made the first team and has done very well in patches, but let's not forget he was a product of Man City initially. As Souttar was at Dundee United and spent most of his academy time on loan with Joey Barton. We haven't been producing talent on a regular enough basis for me to say the current academy set up is not beyond change and a different direction. Oliver Shenton was predicted to be great, he's currently at Chorley in the National League North. Thibaud Verlinden likewise, was meant to be the next thing but faded away abroad. Joe Bursik, highly rated and deemed good enough to play for England U21's but Stoke seemed to not help him realise his potential.. Plenty others I could name and add to this list Daniel Bachman was released deemed surplus to requirements, now first choice at Watford and Austria.

We knew that he was going some time back and surely should have cut our losses so a new one could come in and help get things started on new priorities before the season ended. Outwardly, the ownership just appear to be so flaccid in their governance.
