POLL HERE: oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/308809/spend-summerJust stemming from the mention of Ronnie Edwards from late in the January window, and also the perhaps very optimistic link to Ross Stewart (which did come from both Sky and Nixon) We know we're going to bring in probably a dozen players. Just trying to get a sense of what the view is on what FFP allows us to push the boat out to in terms of net spend? Very hard to get a real handle on, then we'll see how close the wisdom of the crowd was come September.

I'm not expecting us to spend all that much, most of the money we now have available will surely be used on wages rather than transfer fees? Anyone thinking we're going to be chucking around £5m here, £7m there, maybe even hoping for some £10m 'rock the city' type signing are going to be hugely disappointed.

Not more than £20M I guess, but we will be able to offer decent contracts in this division I believe.

£5m or less I take it?
I think it’ll be more likely that we’ll be handing out big contracts to aging players rather than large transfer fees.

I would imagine a lot of any funds would be spent on wages, so we are competitive on free transfers.

8 signings average £3m per player 5 loans I’m expecting 4 or 5 freebies. 2 or 3 players for small fees (£1 to £2m each) and maybe 1 big signing (£5 to £6m). The rest loans. Total spend ~£10m.

With the squad being so thin Its one hell of a job we need a least 6/7 players who are good enough to go from day one. Is Alex Neil capable of bringing it all together for August I hope so because expectations seem to be quite high reading some posts on here.

Very hard to get a real handle on, then we'll see how close the wisdom of the crowd was come September. We could spend 5m and get it right We could spend 30 mill and get it very wrong again. Obviously the general rule is more money better players but as we know too well it doesn’t work out that way.

I think for FFP you spread fees out over a contract. Think we're only writing down Brown/Wilmot now? So if we wanna risk £5m/year and 3 year contracts then I think fees would max out round £15 mil.
Less if Neil wants to bring in more experienced free agents ok big wages. Aren't the rumours that Gayle is costing £1 mil a year?

I'll be amazed if we don't go in for Stewart. He's just signed a years extension, so out of our price range I would think. Think it's just a case of Sunderland taking up their 12-month option, which they were expected to do to prevent him leaving for nothing now. The story was they weren't prepared to go beyond a £10,000-a-week wage offer Until he commits for longer, always a chance they feel they'll have to cash in. If they leave it until January, all their leverage is nearly gone. Whether anyone would offer anything this summer after a bad achilles injury is another matter though! Him coming here certainly looks a long shot - but it was just the fact we were allegedly interested that gets you thinking about what our budget is because we'd have known full well it'd be beyond £5m and getting towards 8 figures.

According to us, the board may disagree We don't have a lot of players left on the books though so the board must be expecting a big window Most of which could be done on a free. I honestly expect about 3-5 money transfers. The rest I expect to be loans and free transfers.

Around about 15M I reckon. Lots of cheap freebies, we'll max out our loans and can see maybe 4/5 players at 2-3M.

Not sure how effected that side of things is. Shopping abroad in the majority does seem to bring better value for money as you state.

I thought we would have 15 million plus this summer, with the sale of Harry, which put us above the FFP bar?

What’s the point in paying them a wage if they aren’t sorting this shit out re work permits etc? I could go and watch some fucker in League One and say he’s good
