Now I haven’t watched this for a good while due to it getting a bit shitter every season. Used to be a staple in my house.
But during half time in the Brighton vs Man City game there was an advert saying “the last ever Soccer Saturday”.
Is this true and what’s the reason for taking it off air? I could make my own conspiracies but does anyone know why it’s finishing?

Because it’s wank and nobody watches it anymore? Is it that shit now? I guess as you and Bayern say that must be the reason. Shame as it was once a really entertaining show when I last watched it regularly circa 2010 or something

Other than sport matches/events I don’t set out to watch anything as it’s being broadcast and download everything else to my Sky box to watch in the evening. I’m sure many others do things similarly.
Soccer AM, unless I’m mistaken, is part of the build-up to the weekend’s football, and not really something you’d watch after it, so I guess modern TV habits that didn’t exist so much in S/AM’s prime don’t help.
That and it apparently not being very good either of course!

Despite Soccer AM having had its day I’d also imagine the program was too bloke oriented for Sky these days. Not diverse enough in the presenting stakes for 2023 Sky scheduling also🙄absolutely pathetic the route in which Sky and the Beeb are taking for me

Fenners used to be funny when he was just in the show to do sketches with Sheephead, Rocket, Tubes etc, now he gets right on my tits, dresses like an absolute twat, and tries miles too hard to be funny. Jimmy Bullard does my fucking nut in an all, he is a right stupid little twat.
I've not been able to watch it since these pair were let loose, and since the music guests got wanker and wanker over the years.

Save Chip!
I'd forgotten there was a presenter before Lovejoy but he wisely left at its peak. Goldstien was absolutely wank in comparison and Rushton was slightly better but the magic had gone. Watched the odd one since but Lloyd Griffiths was unwatchable.
Imagine getting away with this now:
Saturday Social is embarrassingly bad - no idea why kids find it interesting listening to social media morons who're even more boring than the Soccer Saturday panel. 'Sick Bro Sweet' - mix of middle class 20 somethings with a media degree who still stay with their mum living off YouTube likes.

It is sadly a sign of the times - I've honestly no problem with the promotion of some fantastic pundits and commentators (male and female), the growth of the game across the divides, but for whatever reason, the folk in charge at Sky have stopped catering for whom is probably their core audience - middle aged blokes
Soccer Saturday is a another case - its basically a show showing football scores as they happen - but it was made by Jeff Stelling and his mates telling you about them as if in a pub with funny anecdotes, humorous takes on the games they were watching, and offering their professional insight into what was going on given you couldnt see the game - most were very comfortable in front of a camera and could hold an audience
Nowadays the panel is ex pros who have just retired in the main, who struggle to convey whats going on with any excitement or enthusiasm - and this isnt just the easy targets people pick at - people like Neil Mellor, who is as interesting as a door, Matt Murray, Tim Sherwood, Jamie Mackie, Michael Dawson, even Karen Carney (who I think has grown immeasurably as a live pundit/commentator after a sticky start). Merson is a parody of himself nowadays!
Some are still OK - I dont mind Clinton Morrison, Jobi McAnuff is very knowledgable, Alan McInnally is always good value, Sue Smith I think is good at it - but its no longer catering to its core viewership who want to hear Charlies stories, or Phil Thompson.
People like Le Tissier, Rodney Marsh etc got themselves canned with stupid comments on air and social media
So sadly, just like Soccer AM, I fear Soccer Saturday will be next - given you can now watch the same show in 3 formats on BBC, Sky and BT/TNT Sport - and for most wise minded folk, if you want to watch your team, you can find a way - even for the casual fan you can watch NBCs Goal Rush or similar and actually see the goals as they are scored
Soccer AM used to be a staple of my matchday routine, it was hip, funny, had good guests on, bands, competitions and embodied 90s 'lad' culture through to the mid 2000s! It was like Saturday morning kids TV (Live and Kicking etc) but for adults and kids who liked football - a bit Tizwas in nature without the custard I still watched it after Tim left, Helen going was a sad day, and the show has morphed into some shortened comedy sketch, cheap laughs, repeated in jokes, and from being a must watch has become a 'might' watch if nothing else is on, to a 'ffs is nothing else on' for the past few years.
That said, its still a million million miles better than that shite 'Saturday Social' crap they are pushing, where nobody 'social media' stars (giving the 'yoof' their voice) pretty much talk about Arsenal and Man Utd for 2 hours - its fucking dire, almost sycophantic in its ignorance of football outside the traditional top 6 - I hate the phrase but if there is an 'agenda', that show is the epitome
Apparently that will be elongated to replace Soccer AM next year
Sky Sports used to be innovative with its coverage and shows, everything now feels so cheapened and cut back - times where the same show is on 4 channels of the 9 is a joke - and if it wasnt for live football and cricket I would be shot of it
Bring back Sunday Supplement and Goals on Sunday! Now just mini sections on Sky Sports News.....(I do like Mondays Ref Watch though ;-) )

It's heyday was around 15 years ago with Chamberlain & Lovejoy, when this sort of show was new and the other programming was very staid and tired. There's probably more entertain things on Insta now, that's the way of the world. As people have mentioned it was blokish, nowt wrong with that - we've got to have something to watch. And it's probably where more fan-focused channels on social media have come into play - they don't have to answer to some corporate trite being pushed out.

Not diverse enough in the presenting stakes for 2023 Sky scheduling also🙄absolutely pathetic the route in which Sky and the Beeb are taking for me The irony of that mate is that it was one of the first mainstream footy programmes to have a female presenter and Helen Chamberlain was good unlike some of the cack being shoehorned into the Beeb sports presenting simply because of their gender (whatever that may be nowadays). It was the spark between her and Lovejoy that made the show. It went to shit when they left. Plus at the time it was something fresh. It’s been done to death now. I watched a bit of it a month or two ago and it was utter shit. Bullard is as funny as dogshit on your best shoes.

It's been a very tired show for the best part of 10 years, absolutely no surprise they are canning it really.
As for stuff like the Saturday Social it's again no surprise it's a feature given how many views these people clock up online, it gives Sky an in with a younger audience and also gives them short, social media publishable content to drive engagement and advertisement money in. It's a crock of shit but that's the brand, the most outrageous takes to bring in the most attention.
As for them only talking about big clubs it's plus ca change tbh, was no different on Sunday Supplement unless they were admonishing us for daring to not roll over for Arsenal at home.

Dont doubt this skip - but having 3 kids (21, 19 and 13) - they rarely watch telly at all - and if they do its for Netflix/Disney shows that they can binge watch They are more likely to be watching YouTube on a device for a 5 minute show than spend 30-60 mins watching an actual full length programme - never mind being told what time they have to watch it on the schedules! Dont start me on kids watching other people play video games when they literally have that game sitting there and wont play it themselves! TV has changed forever tbh - the days of waiting all week for the next episode of your fave show is over. Only Live Sport keeps 'normal' scheduled telly alive! Everything else is catchup TV
