Seems there's a curse on players at stoke who are picked for player of the season. McClean, Clucas, Powell all got it and all either are or were soon persona non grata at Stoke. I can't remember who won last year. Perhaps he's already gone. The only person to win that award and go on to greater things is Pottermus.

His goal contributions pretty much kept us in the league a few seasons ago. My son also walked out with him as a mascot too, and he was apparently really friendly and funny. For whatever reason injuries or fitness, just not being up for it(which is not excusable) Its definitely time for him to leave, but he does so with my best wishes. A much more interesting post than those just abusing him. Personally I never warmed to the bloke but why do some comments on here have to be so horrible? Aye don't see any need to get personal or tell anyone who has put on the red and whites to F**k off its really not necessary, we are all human, life is too short etc etc, i know some will be deemed to have been stealing a living but easier and healthier to just draw a line and wish everyone well. Am sure i've been guilty of having a rage or two in the past but i'm trying to be better

Just never seemed likeable did he? Good first year or so, then just anonymous/injured/pure shit.

Wonder how that bloke who got a tattoo of him feels now? Presumably he'll just start telling everyone it's Richie Cunningham.

Don’t want get personal or owt but (there I go ) he has a player in him self but never let loose his own belief, for ever witnessing him hide in games rather than having the nounce to be available, ball at feet skill was good but coordinating him sen amongst a team was some what lacking. Whilst typing I kinda realised it ain’t just him, he just really stood out in this respect. Proper wank and will be remembered as such instead if one of them players you go ‘blimey’ I forgot about him. At least in a day an age where he can hang up his boots and not go be a PE teacher at some local school. Then again he could be just thinking he’s looked after his family🤷♂️. Rememberable no will he yeah

For me, the biggest frustration that I had with Clucas after his one good(ish) season was that it was guaranteed that he’d do well versus Hull and especially versus Swansea. In those games, he was motivated to actually play. Immediately before and after those games he was awful: couldn’t pass forwards, lost most 50-50s, generally just jogged about. He did that for a couple of seasons and it kind of took the piss. It’s one thing to be a poor player, it’s another to be a half decent player with a pathetic attitude.

I'm not 100% sure but didn't Clucas do a cupping his ears at the Stoke fans at one point after scoring too? That's never going to go down well..

That aside even in his first season he didn't do enough creativity and closing down for me

Pretty sure that I state “after his one good(ish)” season. Yep, I checked and in the post you quoted, I said it. He scored 2 in each of his last 2 campaigns (not including the present one, where he didn’t score at all). Given that he doesn’t do much other than score, that’s pretty abysmal.

Same as Baker, scores a few goals but when that dries up they show as much presence or fight as the invisible man.

That aside even in his first season he didn't do enough creativity and closing down for me The way I remember it Clucas scored some spectacular goals from some distance, cutting in from the right and unleashing that sweet left foot. He didn't do that often enough. I also remember that when Tymon finally started showing what he can do and wasn't forced to do what he does badly, he was well protected by Clucas, dropping back to cover without actually playing as a defender. When Clucas played less, Tymon suffered, not least under Neil who never understood that - or wasn't prepared to somewhat sacrifce a midfielder to cover for a defender and so didn't ask anyone to be Josh' 'minder'.

Tymon had one good season with us at left wing back, Clucas started 18 games that season and Tymon had a lot more than 18 good games. In that time, Baker and Allen constituted the closest we had to a functional midfield partnership. Even then, one of the biggest issues we’ve had since coming down has been a paperweight midfield too scared to pass forward or to win the 50-50’s. Clucas contributed to that dramatically. He was a waste of a large fee and a large wage. Glad he’s gone.
