About time. He knows what MON wants which is nothing like what AN wants. Back to cleaning the bogs at the Etihad.

The writing was on the wall for him once Ricky Martin was appointed. I think Neil's backroom upheaval or revamp is pretty much complete.. I would like to see a new first team coach to replace Rory Delap, but can't see this happening now.

Inevitable.
Do like the clear-mindedness we seem to be working towards. It’ll be a problem again when the time comes to change managers again but for too long we’ve been a twisted wreckage of various past failures and getting everyone focused on the same vision is long overdue.

Looks like he's leaving then? Someone in line to replace him or another change in structure?

It's just all a big risk to me. Lurching from one manager to the next and changing the staff to suit.
I know we're on a good run and we're all rightly excited about the summer, so a lot of this noise will die down for a bit but it's still a big worry for me.
If things go wrong again it's back to the lottery and it shouldn't be that way.

Yeah, I still think it's insane we don't have a more cemented structure... A director of football etc is essential in a club for stability.

His 4-year stint happens to have co-incided with the biggest pile of dung we've seen in recent times.
He'll be sorely missed.

As it was with Andy Cousins, Alex Aldridge and some other bloke Rowett hired before him. The club should have a director of football not employed by the manager.

I liked this sentence at the end of the report on the club website. Seems like we are moving towards a more professional approach to recruiting than the bloke down the pub:
"We have appointed a high-calibre, specialist agency to assist us in the appointment process and will share any updates with our supporters in due course.”
Of course we might have done it before without making it public knowledge but it just sounds reassuring that we are recruiting in a more modern way.

Delving back a fair while now but didn’t we used to be closely aligned with beswicks sports? Sounds like we are moving back to that sort of system

If things go wrong again it's back to the lottery and it shouldn't be that way. Rightly or wrongly the club have chosen the manager as top dog approach rather than the Director of Football as top dog approach. As you say the latter approach provides stability and changing managers shouldn't mean a major upheaval and a change in strategy but the fact is that's not the model we've gone for and in fact Neil is only here because he was told he would have more control than he would have had Sunderland who operate that way. If we go for the Director of Football model we would have to change manager and the entire structure and it would take several years to bed in. If you go for the manager as top dog approach you have to stick by the manager longer than you might under the Director of Football manager otherwise the club is in constant turmoil - which is what happened between the Hughes sacking and the appointment of O'Neil. It looks like the club have gone all in with Neil so the Director of Football model is off the agenda for at least a couple of seasons providing relegation isn't an issue.

Doesn’t matter wolves use a Portuguese agency hence their influx of players from that region. They know availability and what’s available for them to sign.

Appears to be a clean sweep from to to bottom. I am a little surprised O'Shea has survived, Neil must rate him highly. Also surprised Delap Snr wasn't replaced on the coaching side, perhaps that's in the offing?.

Weren't Beswick's just agents? Doesn’t matter wolves use a Portuguese agency hence their influx of players from that region. They know availability and what’s available for them to sign. But isn't it just players on their books? If so that means you are only looking at a small proportion of available players. This appointment is about appointing administrative not playing staff and I've never heard reference to us using a specialist agency for this although as I said it could have happened in the past, just that we are more open now which in itself is a good thing. When I fill in one of those fan questionnaires about Stoke I always have no option but to say that their communication with fans about what is going on as regards the running of the club is abysmal. EDIT Just looked it up and Beswick's do represent clubs as well so being based in Stoke I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't them. Don't know how that works when a club is negotiating a contract with one of their player clients. I guess the club would have to negotiate for themselves.

I thought beswicks were employed by the club to look after the clubs interests with contracts being drafted by them to to the clubs request etc, also providing a player liaison function too. They can enter into discussions with any players the club request, also if they decide tap somebody up it gives the actual club some distance from this!

Yes but they also are agents for players and negotiate their contracts - at the moment for example it would appear that Tom Edwards and Connor Roberts are both represented by Beswick's. There would be conflict of interest if they represented both club and player in contract negotiation. Jay Rodriguez is also a client - what would happen if we wanted to sign him? (Just took him from the top of their list, not because we stand a chance of signing him)

Btw not suggesting it is beswicks just remembered we have had a previous arrangement with them! Knowing us it’s honest joes backstreet agency that we are using!

Getting a job at Chelsea, so must be well thought of uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/chelsea-plan-another-recruitment-team-061500347.htmlChelsea have formally announced the appointment of “world-class coach” Mauricio Pochettino and are planning to further strengthen their recruitment department ahead of a busy summer of transfer activity. Talks are ongoing with Andy Cousins to join their scouting team and work alongside Joe Shields, who was poached from Southampton and holds the title of co-director of recruitment and talent. It was announced in March that Cousins was leaving Stoke City, where he was head of football operations at the Championship club. Cousins has previously worked for Northern Ireland, as a lead analyst, and was with Manchester City.

theathletic.com/4563021/2023/05/30/andy-cousins-chelsea-stoke/Chelsea are set to appoint Stoke City’s Andy Cousins to a senior recruitment and scouting position. Cousins’ departure from Stoke was announced in March and he has since been on gardening leave, which finishes tomorrow (Wednesday). Cousins will officially start his role at Chelsea in July — when newly-appointed head coach Mauricio Pochettino also formally begins his tenure at the west London club. Cousins was a key figure in the scouting and recruitment team in Michael O’Neill’s first spell as Northern Ireland manager, and was brought to Stoke as a lead analyst by the 53-year-old. Cousins was later promoted to head of football operations at Stoke.

So he's either very good, given that he's been at Man City & now Chelsea...
Or, he can spot a player worth £50m and tell his club 'this player's good', but struggles a bit more when he's scouting players worth a fraction of that?
Or, he just wants an easy life. I think I could probably scout players, if I had an unlimited budget.

Making a cock-up with a £20m player at Man City or Chelsea doesn't ruin the finances and prospects for the club - make a cock-up at £5m-£10m lower down the food chain and it can seriously damage a club.
