Haven’t wigan had these financial issues for years now? And yet they always seem to tear apart league one somehow. They’ve been champions of that league 3 times in less than 10 years! In fact the last time they won it, it was after a season where they were in a relegation battle all year if I remember correctly. And yet they still managed to build a championship winning squad off the back of it.
It’s quite miraculous really because that division is no walk in the park. We spent 4 seasons the last time (and only managed to go up via the playoffs) Sheff utd were in there for 6 seasons far more recently, Ipswich down for a good few years. Notts forest were down there for a while IIRC? Leeds too!
And yet wigan (smaller than every club mentioned) always seem to piss it. Maybe this time will be different and they’ll tumble back to where they came? Although they are prob an upper league one/lower championship size club these days. But these financial issues might make it different this time. Although won’t be surprised if they defy logic and are looking forward to championship football again in a year.

Same with Rotherham too- maybe not being a bigger club at that level is an advantage as you're not everyone's Cup Final?

Barnsley another one who never seem to stop down there too long.

See they have a 4pt deduction from next season, it could be 8pts if the owner continues to not pay the staff.

Remember Wigan has a good non league club, they could end up there again if they keep it up.

The wheels aren’t falling off they have fallen off, rolled down the road and been run over by trucks and an elephant has stamped on what’s left and defecated on them They could seriously end up out of business before a ball has been kicked

Heard they've got a good but ageing left midfielder.

No I'm thinking Bury, Macc etc. Shame really. I quite liked Wigan around 2008-2013, with players like Palacios, Moses, Rodallega, McArthur and McCarthy being in the team at one time or another.

Points deductions only hurt the supporters, who are always there when others have long gone. They should fine the owners, & remove their ownership qualifications.

Points deductions only hurt the supporters, who are always there when others have long gone. They should fine the owners, & remove their ownership qualifications. They don't need qualifications atm We need an independent regulator who has the power to issue, and remove, licences to run professional football clubs where licences removed ownership of the club should temporarily pass to the regulator before club sold on This would be a huge deterrent for shyster owners which football attracts more than it's fair share of

If the takeover goes through ( presumably passing EFL / FA checks etc ) would be good to see the earlier points deductions suspended for a prescribed time and only reapplied if the new owners also mess up
Not least as the points deductions punishes the fans ..and even madder the players for not being paid

It’s ok. FFP will sort it out. Would you like to explain how getting rid of FFP would result in Wigan being able to pay their players? Directly it wouldn't however FFP has led to EFL clubs not buying players off each other which collectively means there is, significantly less money in the collective pot as such clubs have less money Shutting down, if not entirely but massively a key revenue stream for the EFL is madness

Had a soft spot a bit for Wigan for a while after pissing away my a-levels on Championship Manager taking a Tom Youngs inspired Cambridge all the way up from Division 3 to European glory.
Remember playing Wigan away in the Autoglass and them being marooned at the bottom of Division 2 in a mid-week game in-front of a crowd of 83 (no mention of any accompanying dogs). It was the crowd that made it stick in my memory because I was honestly affronted that my swashbuckling side hadn't attracted more punters and put it down to them being weird egg chasing types but wandering how the club could even sustain itself.
Fell out with them when they made my prediction that Dave Rowson would be a great signing for Stoke after seeing him for Aberdeen a couple of times look frankly ridiculous then really disliked them when Martinez was their manager.
Massive ups and downs for the few fans they do have in fairness!
