What a horrible article, the lad must be at his wits end with it all. His point of view of course but it sounds pretty believable

I suppose it is possible he was a "cu^t" but who knows. I did look out for him after he signed but he wasn't all that good. It's a bit of a lottery all around.

He obviously wasn't good enough to make it at Stoke. The rest is irrelevant.

A young guy just gets thrown out for nothing. Someone who is seemingly promising and was doing well in the U23s. Yeah. That makes sense. Could it not also be that his casual remarks about being a bit of a lad were severely smoothing over some problem behaviour? Perhaps that low-ebb of drinking and daily gambling that he mentioned was before he got excluded from the team. I honestly don’t understand why the sport should do anything for anyone who doesn’t make it. They take their chances because the opportunity to be a huge star earning ridiculous money is appealing to many. Are musicians owed something when they don’t make it? Are other artists? What about gymnasts and ballet dancers?

The problem with these articles is it's only one side of the story. There are two sides to every story.
The story from the lads side is horrendous reading but would be interesting to hear the clubs side.
Either way, wish the lad well.

A sad story all round
Nobody knows what really went on and what didn’t so it’s best not to assume and slaughter the lad
He’s right about one thing though ….football does just spit young lads out with no support
Let’s hope he gets himself back on track

So Ryan Shawcross called him a c***? Now why would that be, I wonder.
He seems to have had plenty of chances at a number of different clubs.
How the article could conclude that football chewed him up and spat him out is beyond me.

If that's true that's massively disappointing the club would treat him that way, not on at all.
Yes, if he was good enough he should be able to move down, prove himself at another club rather than be in Sunday league, but still, that sounds like bullying. The stuff about his personality, it's not on

Maybe there is bigger issues with the lad
For Shawcross too dig a lad out he must have good reason as he always struck me as fair and reasonable

A 6 part series following kids through the Academy system at Palace. Very interesting and informative about the pressures that kids as young as 7 and 8 are under, chasing a dream that for most kids just simply doesn't exist. Something they'll find out later on in life.

Here we go It never takes long does it I've seen no over the top comments made or unbeknown accusions made. You can't expect on a public forum an article where a lad is slating the club (which this forum is about) and club legend not to get any negative reaction of any kind.

Football, especially for youngsters is a cut throat business, the youngsters get whored around with the promise of pots of gold and then when the next prospect in that position comes through they drop the old one like a bad smell and it destroys a lot of them.

You'll never hear the clubs side because from what I have been told what he says isn't inaccurate. Was only a matter of time before it came out.

I find the anecdotes in that story very odd and short on detail.
I cant believe there isn't a backstory behind the Shawcross anecdote and similarly with the MON episode.
It just feels like he's not telling the full story here. It's not very believable tbh.

Tbh it reads the exact way I thought football works. It’s brutal but that’s the risk for the big rewards.

Heat of a game/after game situation and a bloke who demands high standards is pissed off and calls someone a cunt. I mean it’s not crime of the century is it. Club captain then doesn’t speak to no mark Youth player again because why would he? Seems totally believable to me.

I watch 100's of lads each week trying to make it, some get an offer to train with a club most never make it that far. Those who do it's a live charger you need supportive partners, train 3/4 times a week have games both midweek and weekends, have to look at your diet. Some have to live away from home, you need physical and mental strength and it does take a few out. The rest move through the age system, but a player at 10 develops as he grows up by the time he is 18/19 could have a very different physic and outlook on the game. I would say the chance you make it at League 1 or 2 is 1 in 500 Championship 1 in 1000 premier 1 in 10000 at best. To be told at 16/17/18 you are released must be a lot to take in. But its a hard life.

Give it your all but accept it’s a big dream and it might not come true.

Too true, the parents are the worse sometimes living they little sons dreams too. Youth football now you hope the parents don't turn up, not all but a lot have to be ring fenced in and signs placed stating Please refrain from giving instructions and Please be positive. Under 18's and Development leagues now some clubs refuse entry unless you are accredited. But as have been said the rewards are massive.
