Can't find the link but this quote is part of his interview that I saw..... "They are a very attritional team, they get the ball forward early. I think Stoke City, from the Tony Pulis days really, have always been a difficult, hard-working, honest team. My mind is still like that of Stoke being a little bit like that, a really difficult team to play against , get the ball forward, put it in your box, ask questions and run hard. “The bits I’ve watched from them, they are not too far away from that, have good athleticism and I think it will be a difficult game for us.” What an absolute prick. Come on, his last few words were spot on.

Sort of thing we expected when coming up against an Alex Neil side once he starts to get a few players in. We did it early in the season and in the latter stages of last season, we did a job on the opposition just like you did today. It’s weird because I didn’t think it was necessarily a 5-1 game, you were the better side overall don’t get me wrong but I thought the score line slightly flattered you. Our starting 11 was suicidal and too easy to break against, and I think your midfield ran the show for you. That one who looks like Shelvey was brilliant and your left winger gave our RB a torrid time (lovely finish for the 3rd too). Our young side are in a bad run of form, and when young lads aren’t getting the results their confidence takes a big knock. You took full advantage of our inexperience today especially in the second half. Fair play to your lot. I think both of us are safe from the drop though, I think we’d slump down to around 16th - 18th and you will probably finish around 10th - 14th. I would say ‘until next time’ but I can’t be arsed with playing you lot again after that shite! Quite clearly you don’t need a target man though as Gayle is mint scoring twice, so no need for you to get Stewart. Cheers. X Not often where we are in that position: Where we have nicked a player or manager off someone and then gone back to stick one over on them. It is normally us that have players/managers taken from us and the inevitable humiliation happens when they return In fact, doesn't seem that long ago when we had what looked like a decent upcoming manager and Sunderland knicked him to be a number 2 there. So trust me when we say we know how you feel - and must be doubly baffling when your manager leaves you for a smaller club that is struggling in the bottom half - baffled us - but I am guessing that says something about the owners of each club.

I'd like to say AN was having a dig with his post match comments! "I knew it was going to be contrasting styles and we're big, strong and powerful and Sunderland are smaller, technical and work the ball really well." 😏

Taken 5 years and inevitably came against another team going through a really crap part of their history. Would have much preferred to batter the likes of Bournemouth or Swansea but hey ho. We did batter Swansea

It's one reason we play well in these games where teams come out and can't score against low blocks.

In fairness as well I think we are steadily improving and our current league position is a flat out lie. Sunderland came across a team that was raring to implement the improvements that had been made, and didn't need much more incentive than an under fire (quite literally) manager to produce a sparkling performance. Sunderland need to improve how much time they need on the ball, time after time we snatched possession away due to a lack of control, or as I said too much time needed. Still they are young team and so long as Mowbray doesn't hang around too long, you'll go in the right direction I'm sure of that. Keep the faith Haway and good luck for the rest of the season. I agree, Mowbray needs to leave next season if we are to have any real shot of challenging for promotion. Always seems to do poor in the second half of seasons. His contract runs our end of next season so it shouldn’t cost too much to pay him off if we go on a bad run next year. The team are too young and inexperienced, and sometimes that youth can lead to a bit of naivety - which your team took full advantage of. There’s basically no relegation battle now by the looks of things anyway, the bottom 3 just aren’t picking up enough points and there’s already a 6 point gap.

Let's face it they had an entire pitch worth to nullify our attack, I could understand the ire if it was outside their box, but it wasn't. It's part of the inexperience mentioned above, a more qualified team would switch on and just divert the ball out of play, possibly for their own throw.

Tony Mowbray is funny. Labelling us an attritional team before the game, even referring back to the Tony Pulis days and now after the game bemoaning the fact we sat back, broke the game up and broke on the counter, whereas Sunderland are this footballing team that like to get on the ball. The bloke has always had a problem with us since the days of Tony Pulis schooling him. Double the amount of shots off target and double the amount of shots on target tells it's own story. The bloke is an absolute melt. Melton Mowbray?

Loves a biscuit does Mowbray. Not quite sure what he’s talking about saying you broke on the counter, it was a game plan that you executed to perfection. Every time you won the ball back you broke very well. The front 3 were causing us issues and Smallbone/Shelvey/Voldemort/The Bald Fella was running the show. Get it right haway his name is William SmallpieceThat's Will Hugepiece now. Get with the times!

Sunderland fans shouldn't get too upset at Saturday's result/performance.
Saturday was "payback" day for Stoke in the sense there have been so many matches this season that Stoke have played reasonably well and got nothing for their efforts. (There is a thread showing xG stats support that.)
Gable is the prime example. He has worked like a dog all season but it has not paid off for him with missed chances and disallowed "goals", but everything went right for him on Saturday. Similarly Campbell who has been out of form but there was a bit of the old magic on Saturday.
Let's hope it is a fresh start for Stoke this season. Certainly performances have turned around since Smallbone has struck form instead of running round like a headless chicken. We seemed to have finally settled on a balanced and complementary midfield with Laurant getting the nod over Baker, and now have "a stopper", "a passer", and "a creator."
We should not get too excited yet though as we have seen repeatedly this season after a victory. Our defence still has a "gift" for the opposition each game, which means we need at least 2 to win.

Mowbray is an ok champs manager thats all. I can't believe he still spouts that shit phrase 'play the right way' it's so irritating suggesting his brand of football is the 'right way'. It ain't sunshine there are lots of ways to play the game. Whenever we were looking for a new manager, I half expected Mowbray to turn up, it's the sort of safe shite appointment the owners were likely to make, thanks christ they didn't.
