A friend of mine was in the boardroom dining suite and spoke to Simon King and John Coates on a couple of occasions last night. Here what was said- Simon King said the Sale of Souttar fixed any questions over FFP, we need to get through this season and then there's a lot of optimism for next season, John wants to throw a lot of money at a push for promotion next season. John Coates spoke to the group twice after that and said although it may sound daft right now but he was really excited about the direction we are going and that we will be going for it next season. Also said that Stoke are planning on scrapping the early bird season tickets for next season as too many people miss the window and the club feels it actively puts them puts people off afterwards and also some people won't because of principle, he didn't say exactly what was going to happen but did say it needs to be appealing to all. Super Jon Walters and Simon Sturridge were there as well Gouranga.

I've been excited at the start of every season for a few seasons now, but I'm beginning to think of it as blind optimism.
I'm cautiously optimistic for next season, and lifting that FFP anchor should definitely help things.

So for anyone asking me what JC should say on a public statement, it's this kind of thing, what he is thinking, what is changing and reasons to be hopeful, if there are any. Not confine it to a few people at the dinner table.

Have to admit that the pessimist in me thought that exact same thing when I first read the OP. I'd be thrilled to be proven wrong and do have reasons to think it just might be different this time around. But yeah, knee-jerk? I thought the same.

We just have to hope that a manager who’s had close to a full season to assess/plan doesn’t fuck up like the previous ones. I have faith but it’s only faith. Would be foolish to have anything more than faith at this point.

Not confine it to a few people at the dinner table. What, to reveal his evil plans out loud to the world, like a Bond villain? Hi everyone, we'll be splashing the cash this summer, do feel free to charge a Stoke City premium won't you? It put another floor on Daniel Levy's house.

JC may be concerned about the uptake of Early Bird purchases given our current league position and the horrible March fixture list, hence his thoughts on scrapping the usual arrangements. A bit wait and see I reckon.

JC may be concerned about the uptake of Early Bird purchases given our current league position and the horrible March fixture list, hence his thoughts on scrapping the usual arrangements. A bit wait and see I reckon. In simple terms , Early bird has two main benifits .. 1) provides clubs with cash flow , and balances books for year end and FFP .. we don’t hopefully need either if a) if our sales have indeed cleared our FFP worries b ) the family underwrite the company accounts ( which they’ve demonstrated previously ) and provides cash flow if required , including further work on the ground in the summer In also ‘locks’ fans in with the inducement of reduced prices … particularly useful if a team is in serious threat of relegation with nothing to lift the gloom if the new COO has convinced the board that in our case early bird is merely marketing tool ..but that supporters are flat at present so take up will be sluggish at best … but competitive prices offered later combined with next seasons gloom lifter , marketing tool of a squad rebuild may mean there’s less need / benifit of an early bird window in March .. one concern is clubs use early bird to capture peoples money before they spend it in the summer ..But as many live in a world of flexible friend (debt ), loans and the never never , rather than save before spending , then competitive payment terms ( credit ) can offset that impact

I think it would be a really good idea to delay early bird season ticket sales until we have more positivity!
Everyone seems to understand next season affords more hope so why not delay until after the season ends?

That Income would be allocated to the following seasons P&L.
