He was terrible against Spurs in the cup when we played. You have to imagine that factors in to any decision. Given they had changed manager since then that's much less of a factor I don’t think it will be. Their recruitment and scouts will be the same and if they’ve got any sense they’ll ask their players too. He really struggled (as you’d expect against the opposition) but it showed where the limit was.

He’s having a stinker today which is nice for us. Totally flat footed on the right side. Another bit of daft management.

Awful for that goal too Hung out to dry by Neil today Yeah he shouldn’t be playing on the right of a back 3. But no excuse for the lack of desire to defend like he showed for that goal.

He’s having a stinker today which is nice for us. Totally flat footed on the right side. Another bit of daft management. Imagine having one of (if not the) best central defender in the league. Imagine that he is very decent at reading the game, at making the important challenges and at aerial duels. Imagine however, that he’s a bit of a giant and as such, is pretty darn slow and about as agile as a Hummer. Then, imagine deciding to play him wide centre back. Classic stroke of management there by AN 😂

He should play in the middle of a three or as one of two central defenders. To play him on the right in a back 4 doesn't suit his best abilities. I feel we play a system that suits Jags, but I honestly don't think it's the best for the team or Souttar himself. He is our best defender and he should be the man in the middle. On the right we could play Taylor or Wilmot if Jags isn't up for it. We are conceding goals for fun so we can't do much worse by playing Souttar in the middle, even if it means Jags is out of the starting 11.

I think he’d be fine generally in the PL but he’s just not worth 20/30m for me. But it is very daft to play him on the right of a three. No idea you’d do it.

There’s also the fact that when coming back from serious injury the first half a dozen games are negotiated with the help of adrenaline, before you hit a bit of a wall. We still need be careful with him whilst the games are coming thick and fast…….

We’ve seen it with all players who come back from long injuries and H will be no different. He won’t be fully back to normal until the start of next season and that’s if he stays injury free. We are only just seeing Campbell come back to something approaching his best.

And I think playing him centrally would aid with that, it’s less turning and twisting and more suited to his game. I would imagine the plan would probably to be play him in the next two and then rest him for the cup.

Not helping him by playing in the right of a three though is it? What’s that all about? Being pushed wide and facing quick wingers like an auxiliary full back is a nonsense to me. He’s our best player and should only ever play as a central defender.

If two PL clubs come in for him and a bidding war starts, plus the inflated nature of the January window, I’d be disappointed if we sold him for less than £20m?

He's certainly not suited to being a wide CB.
Hopefully we'll get another CB in during the window who can play the position and let H go back in the middle with Jags as back up.

True about the Championship but playing in the Premier demands mobility anywhere across the back 3 as the movement of centre forwards is so superior. It's the reason Ten Hague doesn't fancy Maguire. I read an article during the world cup claiming that Maguire looks so much better for England because they defend deep letting teams come at them but Maguire can't cope when there is a lot of space behind him. I think Souttar may be the same and playing for Australia suited him as they defend deep allowing him to watch the game ahead of him. He might struggle against the best Premier forwards who twist and turn, pulling him one way then the other and he has always been susceptible to a through ball to a quick striker running into space behind him.

It does and that’s why I think talk of Spurs and 40m is absolutely laughable. But he’d be a decent signing for a lower tier PL club and do well in more games than not I think.

Depends on how long they plan to keep him. Certainly, bonkers from Neil to play him on the right of a three, needs to be in the middle to allow him to dictate the play from there as he can, not much choice but I would play Clarke on the right of him and Wilmot on the left until we can sign a left-sided player of have players good enough to play a back four.
Chances are he will be gone soon though.

Strange. I thought him and Campbell were our best players by miles yesterday (though granted he might have been closer to stop the cross for their 2nd) yet I see both being criticised for their performance.
I’m not sure he lost a header all game and he got beat once that I can recall by their wide player.
Biggest criticism I’d have of H yesterday was that his passing was a bit off.

I've only seen the short highlights but he was atrocious for their second goal. Stood a yard off the player with the ball allowing him to pick out the cross. Not the same fearless player we saw at the world cup determined to close down spaces and putting in well timed challenges or even the one determined to show his fitness against Luton. I'm atraid, as referred to above, the lack of adrenalin playing in the Championship now will be a big challenge for Harry.

In the centre of a three, I think he’d do well in a bottom half Premier League side. However, unless he went in there and took the league by storm, he isn’t going to be sold for a lot more than he’s bought. As such I agree, I can’t see £30 million. £15 million seems like a very decent offer, but going higher would depend on more than one team being interested.

Despite being played out of position, Harry still did enough to force an own goal equaliser v Rotters. He saved AN's butt.
