the far left and far right have a lot more in common. it is easier for the (far) left to label anyone right of John Smith facist, racist or anyother right wing insult than to engage with them There is literally no one on this board that is "far left" I would have said there was no one on the board who is "far right" either but recently a couple of posters have appeared that would make me question that. It keeps getting brought up by the same half a dozen posters who laughably talk about echo chambers which shows they lack self awareness if nothing else............. I didn’t say anyone was far left. But if the cap fits it’s continually huddysleftfoot slagging posters off for their voting habits

I guess it’s what your levels are but I wouldn’t class Farage as a fascist or far right. Right yes but not far right.

Corbyn is a European Social Democrat like me... So who would you class as far left? I guess it’s what your levels are but I wouldn’t class Farage as a fascist or far right. Right yes but not far right. I'd go something like: Far Right: Tommy Robinson Right: Nigel Farage Centre Right: Jeremy Hunt Centre Left: Andy Burnham Left: Jeremy Corbyn Far Left: George Galloway You can probably slot most people in there somewhere. From reading posts on here there seem to be some people who are definitely somewhere near the far right but I can't think of anybody who I would pin down as far left. I'd also say the centre ground on this board is well towards the right so anyone who is even centre left is getting badged as far left which is nonsense. Left and right is actually too one dimensional to capture the complexity of modern day political opinion. Classic left/right distinctions were based on economic policy particularly the degree of support for state ownership v the free market. What has come to be just as important these days is social attitudes with various degrees ranging from socially conservative to socially progressive. The assumption people make (wrongly in my opinion) is that being socially conservative means right wing (in traditional terms) and socially progressive mean left wing. This isn't necessarily the case. For example Boris Johnson was right wing in terms of economics but outside mouthing off for effect he is socially progressive. Reform UK is a socially conservative party but it's economic policy is further left than Labour. Labours economic position under Starmer is effectively centre right but Starmer is even more socially progressive than Johnson but is doing the same as Johnson in portraying himself as socially conservative in order to con the socially conservative working class to vote for him. Politics is better thought of in terms of an X axis (economic policy - traditional right/left) and Y axis (social attitudes - up progressive, down conservative) and people can be better pinned down in terms of the quadrant they are in. So for example I'd probably be in the top left quadrant X = -0.1 Y = +0.8 where X = -1 is extreme left and Y = + 1 is extreme progressive. Given the findings of the COVID enquiry obviously this would be beyond the current government because they can't do graphs.

I'd consider myself further left than the average leftie on here.
There's no way you batch my leftyness in with redwhiteblue or oggy. They're starmer bum lickers 😜
Plus I'm really really smart too and as salopstick said the far left are the smartest people around. So it is written in the stars you could say. Badger probably far left too for same reason.

Any preference for who's bum you go for and is that determined by IQ or general all round peachiness?

I wouldn't have had corbyn down as "left" based on today's politics because I don't think there's many serving MPs in the uk who consider themselves "left" which are as "left" as him if that makes sense. The centre has shifted to centre right over the last 15 years in my opinion. Farage has the 🍑 🍑

I think there is a need for a genuine socialist party and I don't think Labour is it or ever ever likely to be it. I think PR would precipitate a split in both Labour and the Tories with the core remnants forming around the centre right and centre left and break away parties forming on the right and left. I think this would be a good thing for the electorate and for the parties as it would prevent inter factional infighting within the two main parties disrupting and distorting the political process. Political battles should be fought in public, not behind closed doors where considerations of career and backroom deals decide the outcome.
