The old loop line used to have a branch from Stoke station and up through Cliff Vale then through a tunnel (now sealed up - kids playground on the right as you drive up main road) and the tunnel believe it or not used to come out somewhere near the Borough Arms hotel. Open the bugger up again!! 🤣

Back in the day late 19th & early 20th century the Potteries and Newcastle had a good tramway from Kidsgrove in the north to Trentham in the south and Silverdale/Chesterton in the west to Meir in the east. No government funding was needed as it was paid for by the tramway owners to operate and maintain it. So why cannot this be repeated without central government funding? By 1904 over 14 million passengers were being carried on 32 miles of tramway with power stations in Stoke & May Bank. It continued for over 30 years. The photo shows a tram on the Wolstanton to May Bank road. Attachment Deleted

A light Tram System funded by the government. In other words a skateboard from Meir to Longton, Longton to Bluton, Hanley to Stoke and Cobridge to Hanley.
Return trips on an electric scooter.

It looks like a branch of the route does go into Newcastle in a round about way. Be better to have route connecting Newcastle with Hanley through Bradford and Etruria. Bradford? Sounds like an ambitious project. So people in Shelton, Cobridge and Normacot can visit the in laws.
