I'm no engineer, but wouldn't getting a tram up Limekiln Bank be a bit of a challenge? They have some steep inclines in Sheffield for the trams, admittedly not a limekiln bank. San Francisco has the odd incline. I have no idea what limekiln bank is but remember it from Pottermouth I think it was. Google time

Getting Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-u-Lyme to co-operate on anything is akin to Ukraine and Russia solving their differences! Very frustrating! Pick a side. Tram side Or Shanks pony side.

Im surprised they wouldn't use the mothballed parts of the biddulph and churnet lines to expand it to leek. The track is there, if overgrown, and surely can be bought back into use. It would be ideal to take people to alton towers. I've said it before on here but the idea the Churnet Valley offers a good Alton Towers link is not the case. 3 million visitors a year to Alton Towers but it's seasonal, so all winter your expensive trams/ trains have nothing to do.And as everyone arrives /leaves in a small time window you would need a lot of carriages at the peak times which spend the rest of the day doing nothing much. Why would anyone from, say, Birmingham not take the A38/A50 and go in via Rocester ? From anywhere north East you're not going to go past Alton to park and catch a tram/train. So that's a huge chunk of those 3 million who aren't going anywhere near Stoke. For those who are, how many are going to park their car somewhere near Stoke to catch a tram /train which then heads off via Leekbrook before rumbling down the valley to be offloaded at the bottom of a very steep hill a long way from the theme park entrance? Of course a new entrance could be built to Towers, but the theme park is, I suspect, quite happy to charge for car parking and have everyone funnelled past the gift shops in Towers Street. The there is the Churnet Valley Railway, restricted to 25mph. How fast would the trams/trains need to go to make the journey in a reasonable time? How do those trams/trains fit in around the steam trains? Then the people of Alton are reportedly not really keen on the idea of trains returning, and there are bats in Oakamoor tunnel. At the end of a day queuing at Towers people want to get into their car/coach home and not queue for a tram. How much would it cost to catch the tram/train on top of a very expensive day out? Add in the cost of building the line in the first place and it's far from ideal.

But I’d say the likely hood of it happening is roughly the same as me coming back from a hard days worm charming to find Michelle Keagan spread eagled on my Italian tan leather sofa with an ice cold can nestled between her boobs!

To be fair Badge, you got more chance coming back from a days dog bothering to find Kevin Keegan slumped on a clapped out sun lounger with half a can of strong bow wedeged between his ass cheeks, but I like you take unit better lol 🤣😉😉

Anyone else excited by this? There’s been so many posters on here saying why can’t we be more like Sheffield, Nottingham etc etc yada yada …… surely the council can’t be knocked for this attempt!! (Won’t hold my breath!) Consultation period for 6 weeks starting Monday at www.stoke.gov.uk/transportstrategy It'll never fucking happen. There's £19m of District Heat Network in the ground in Stoke, it's not even connected. Why would you give them hundreds of millions to fuck up as well.

Gotta admit though …… you’ll can bet that at some stage of the planning process in Manchester Birmingham (large cities) and Nottingham Sheffield (medium sized cities) people would have been saying the exact same things ….. it’ll never happen, the chaos, the delays, the lack of funding bla bla bla but then ….. it DID happen so if two small-ish cities like Stoke and Coventry wanted to explore this I don’t see how/why you’d just dismiss it? Whether it gets off the ground or not I think the council (on this occasion) HAVE to be applauded and commended - I think to do anything less makes Stoke people look the most backward thinking group imaginable. Yes the town centres and shops are failing, but people still live there, still work there, still go to school there, still visit parks and other family members and need every encouragement possible to leave the cars at home IF there’s a viable alternative. Went on an incredible tram in Luxembourg, Saturdays are free and half the tram is given over to disco lights & music as a sort of ‘party tram’ …… yes I know what you’ll say: dustheads smackheads spice heads will ruin them ….. again: bla bla bla

Terrific. Ten more years of roadworks.
What does a tram do that a bus can't?

Well looking at the trams in Manchester it seems to are a smooth ride but also via clever signalling at key junctions they get priority so prob take half the time of cars & buses but point taken ….. why not just have a bloody good bus service

Terrific. Ten more years of roadworks. What does a tram do that a bus can't? Avoid traffic. Run more regularly and on time.

Terrific. Ten more years of roadworks. What does a tram do that a bus can't? Can go on tracks where there is no other traffic Thus ensuring trams get no traffic delays and takes people off the road so better for road users too At least in parts anyway

It looks like a branch of the route does go into Newcastle in a round about way. Be better to have route connecting Newcastle with Hanley through Bradford and Etruria.
