Public transport in Stoke on Trent is, frankly, a disgrace. Red or blue, whoever has been in change have never done anything to improve it. The town is becoming like the land that time forgot. But , hey Ho, let’s build some empty units in Hanley and open a new library in tunstall. There u go peasants- you’ve been levelled up.
However- on the point of last night- there was poor traffic management in and around the ground coupled with the fact many stokies who wikl have left at a similar time as normal and expected to get up to the ground in the same timeframe- discounting the fact there would be a large number travelling from outside the area.
We’ve had 28 knplus crowds in the prem regular and I’ve never seen anything like the shambles last night.
As for a station- we need effective public transport throughout the city a station by the ground on a match day would be costly and murder to police.

One thing I think it certain is that the developers and backers behind the Britt did not envisage themselves trying to get to a game on a wet and windy Tuesday night, There is absolutely no aspect of the ground that was designed and built by anyone who had ever attended a football match in their life.

Why would we build a new stadium , ours is only 25 yrs old , we were in the last one over 100 years We obviously won't. But to answer your question: 1. It's shit - was built on the cheap and is seemingly impossible to improve. 2. It's a nightmare to get to and away from. 3. There's nothing round it unless you're in the market for a new motor. 4. The wind makes it impossible to play good football. All in my opinion of course.

Is it the only entertainment (don’t laugh) venue in the U.K. where vehicles mix with pedestrians accessing and egressing the stadium? When the stadium was being built the A50 was still a dirt road in initial stages of development. A bulldozer would have created a link from the stadium car parks to the A50 within a couple of days, a link road costing just above zero in real terms. At least traffic flow would have been one way. How many years did it take to create a 100/200m slip from the Blurton roundabout to the Trentham Lakes site? Piss poor foresight and planning from the onset of developing the whole site. Access to and from the Trentham/Longton Road 😂😂😂😂😂

Myself with a few others attended meetings with the architect and stoke in the early planning, it took place at the old Vic, the stadium as it is now is not how it was first planned, a couple of things i remember were the corner where the score board is community leisure corner with gym etc, tunnel was in the middle, but also remember that the position of the home fan's was discussed and i think on fan feed back the fans decided that the home end was where it is because it was nearer to the boothen end at the old Vic

There was nothing by the ground when it was built except clay/soil mounds. That’s why it was built a mile from anything - it ‘regenerated’ the former brown field of Trentham Superpit. No other considerations were important : parking, the death of Stoke town or proper road or rail access. It’s the M.O of St Modwen.
Anything could have been incorporated, but the pressing issue was reducing cost. Infrastructure is expensive and gives no immediate bang-for-the-buck.
It was always going to bite us on the arse. It did years ago, and will cost a lot more to fix now than it would have, if done properly in 1997.

This thread sounds like a computer game where you build a football ground from scratch in fantasy cuckoo land.
Can anyone tell me how many trains use the line behind the ground or do we expect British rail to introduce a whole new timetable for Stoke matchday, even when changed at the last minute or for cup games arranged 2/3weeks in advance?
I have read implying that the club/Coates should fund the building of such a station - so it won't belong to British Rail so why should they run trains to it or are we suggesting we should just give BR the money to build it?
Normal match day traffic is largely at the moment caused by home fans. How many of them live near a station or are we expecting them to drive to a station, catch a train, queue to catch a train home then drive home?
Building a tram service is expensive and again only runs along one or two routes not just running in a mazy line round everywhere. NET in Nottingham opened one line 20 years ago and another 10 years ago linking 4 Park and ride stations to the middle of the city. Despite being well used, having a station at the hospital and Nottingham having a workplace parking levy on firm's providing parking to employees in the city, it is losing approx £20 million a year and has nowhere near paid for its construction yet.
Manchester is quoted as an example of how it could work but my son and husband used to use it regularly when my son was at uni there but said the queues getting away after the game were so bad they decided to drive in and park up at one of the businesses around the ground or catch it before the match and get me to pick them up afterwards near the ground.
We are where we are and have to put up with it. Away fans do tend to drive to a ground expecting to be able to find parking and I do think better signage would help. The number of times we get held up by people without passes trying to get on the North car park is infuriating and would be alleviated if there were signs on the lead up directing drivers without tickets straight down towards Trentham. The idea of a P&R somewhere on the Trentham side might work but at the moment a lot of the holdups seem to be due to stopping cars to allow buses through. You would need to encourage people to use them but if you are 70+ or unfirm on your feet you can't queue for a bus and then stand on it to get to your car.

Our ground is shit and we should knock it down and get b365 to cough up a cheeky few hundred milli to build us an amazing new ground (with standing areas) in a decent urban location nearer to one of the towns? I think this should be raised at the next meet the chairman night.
In all seriousness I do wonder what John thinks of our ground. I suspect the hierarchy might understandably not have negative feelings towards it, or even be aware that there’s an undercurrent of us who dislike our own home.

A lot of the traffic/foot fall would be reduced if there was actually something to do by the ground. The usual suspects call a “fan zone” wank and a waste of time, but I dare say it’d stagger the arrival/departure times of a lot of folk. If it’s to be done it needs to be done in a way that will attract people and not be like the food and drink in the ground (shit and a complete rip off)

Arguably in an infinite universe it will by definition happen. But probably not in the next trillion years or so. I was once told that when the London-NW-Scotland railway was being built in the 19th Century, Stoke had the chance to be the hub in the North Midlands. That was blocked by local landowners, and the prize went to Crewe. Along with the investment, industry, skills, jobs, population, etc. I have no idea whether that is true, but it is the sort of Stokie own goal that would not remotely surprise me. Back in the 1840s Liverpool and Dublin (Holyhead) were more significant than they are today in respect of post and travel to and from London and that might explain the choice of Crewe over Stoke. Crewe could have been chosen over Stoke for all sorts of reasons - eg topography, engineering feasibility, and so on. Or simply the greasing of the right palms. But I suspect back in the mid 19th century Crewe was a tiny place (and only grew because of the railway) - and as it can't be much more than 10 or so miles closer to Liverpool and Holyhead than Stoke, I doubt that was a reason. But as I say, I am only guessing...

The sudden decision by michelin that their large car park was not to be used shortly after the ground was open really caused the owners and planers problems, originally this large car park was going to be a short walk away and shuttle bus, but when their employees could not vacate the car park at night matches (no thought given regards midweek match times) that's when the problem started, using small pieces of land near the ground to be used for parking was only a short term measure

Has been since the day it opened. Someone mentioned on a thread somewhere, that there was room on land running alongside City Road in Fenton. I haven't been that way for so long, i personally have no idea. I don't think that's a bad shout. Kind of brings together both Stoke and Fenton, plus the train station is nearby for transport links. (i know it's highly unlikely).

And with the gap in the corner, on a clear day (when the incinerator wasn't belching smoke out) you'd have been able to actually see the area known as Boothen.

There is no space on running schedules for extra stops for scheduled services, which wouldn't have the required capacity anyway. There is also certainly no timetable space, spare rolling stock or drivers for specials.
