The lack of vision from some of our supporters matches the city. Even if it cost tens of millions, over time it would help to boost the town centre bringing significantly more footfall to stoke boosting local businesses. It also takes cars and traffic off the road which is an aim for the future. It should be funded by the council. So gone up from the £50-100K then? That's inflation for you Pugs, the cost of cardboard and crisps has gone through the roof since last week 😂

It's far enough yeah, I think straight down the canal is the most direct and quickest route but even that is a bit of a walk tbh. It's a nice little walk providing we've not had a load of rain and the path is ok but it wouldn't be suitable for everyone....... Nothing a couple more Barge Inn's couldn't help with

It’s a bit of a no brainer really.
This is the type of project that the council need to be looking at to improve the infrastructure around the city. It’s not just about football crowds either. A station there could service all of the businesses on Sideway and Stanley Matthews Way. The line is there, just build a bloody station.
And for everyone who says it would mess up the schedule, how do you think the existing stations got where they are. They were built and the timetable was adjusted, it’s not rocket science.
The lack of ambition of foresight is a joke.
I leave the ground 10 minutes early every match and I’m home by 5.30. If I didn’t get the first set of buses out of there it would be closer to 7.00, it’s ridiculous and always has been. It’s not the clubs fault but the city should wake up and try to improve instead of settling for shit all the time.

And if you had a train at 5pm you’d have to leave earlier than that or wait for the 5:30 train which would get you back into Stoke even later so you’d end up catching the bus anyway I fully agree there’s many things that’s needed for the city like trams or monorail etc etc and yeah we are lagging behind But a station built at huge expense that’s in reality not needed is just mental

Just needs to happen doesn’t it? Last night sealed the deal for me. a station at the ground would alleviate most of the problems. Think of all the traffic that would be taken off the road if they would just build a station. Fans that arrived at stoke station had to get taxis and busses to the ground increasing the traffic and many had to drive to the game because they know how far the ground is from the station, I know many fans from stafford that drove up for this game and were stuck in traffic all night, some of them turned back and missed the game entirely! A train from stafford to stoke is 15 minutes and only £4 for both ways, take them to stoke station then hop on a train right to the ground, of course it will be hard to build and there will be implications but fuck me can the club and city council not see? Pull your fingers out. This game did nothing good for the city anyway even if it did go to plan because fans can’t spend money in the town centre due to the transport links, a station would encourage fans to spend money in town and then hop onto a train right to the ground. Or like the one at Old Trafford. Just a platform which is serviced just on matchdays from Piccadilly or from the other direction. Last thing you want after a long journey from Essex is a long walk to Old Trafford.

If the ground had been built in Etruria in the 90's instead of the flyblown hill at Trentham Lakes there would already have been a functioning railway station and branch line in place. It is 10 minutes walk from both Stoke and Hanley much more car parking space with potentially multiple access points from the A500 and A53 and has much more to offer in the way of food, drink and leisure outlets to attract football spectators to arrive early and stay late. Unfortunately Stan Clarke and his brown envelopes didn't own the site. The ground is an abomination. And it's even built the wrong way round ffs. We’ve been here before mate and seriously not again I couldn’t handle it 😊 The funding for a new stadium came from the EU and it was only to be used on reclaimed land and nowhere else The stadium is on the site of reclaimed British Coal land I know mate it's a futile argument because we are where we are. But the decisions made back then were made with little foresight and have contributed to the problems we see week in week out culminating in the issues last night. Even down to spinning the ground 180 degrees and pushing it back to the railway line. That way all your carparks are on the front. The main stand, entrance and shop are on the front and the away end next to the A50 lending itself to a slip road onto the A50 to whisk away fans off without all converging at the roundabout by the Audi garage. And by the way the whole Etruria estate is built on brown field land isn't it? It could have been a proper asset to the city but as you say no point going round in cirtles. We're not moving any time soon are we?

Regular services could use it when busy. Drop and go. If theres money to be made then its a winner.

Great idea but would never get off the ground with regards timetables for a start & even accounting for a train stopping at platform for a minimum of 2 mins. Yes a location could easily be suited with sidings on the "up" side where Marcrofts is...but this is Marcrofts sidings not Network Rail, so not on the network as such. ...and grounds with Stations catered for their own needs very rarely work. The Old Trafford example on the Mterolink is a good one, but as mentioned the original station by the Football Ground closed years ago, same as the station built for the Baseball Ground on match days....and even the "its never used" station for the CBS Arena in Coventry, not timetabled on match day or a very irregular service Why shouldn't it get off the ground? A few years after I moved to Plymouth a new station was opened at Ivybridge a small town about 8 miles east of Plymouth on the main line to Exeter and London. Although Ivybridge station enabled a few commuters to get to Plymouth by train each weekday, the total number of passengers would be dwarfed by the numbers likely to use a new station serving our stadium and the industrial estate surrounding it. It might not get enough support to get off the ground but, with a bit of vision and forward planning, it could be a success and could certainly produce bigger profits for the rail company than the station at Ivybridge does - especially if they offered rail season tickets for match days to North Staffs and south Cheshire residents. the siding and platform I believe are still there from the mine, BUT it would never happen because it's not on the main line, most people would need to change at Stoke and that would not happen

It's a messageboard where light hearted comments are prevalent so get over yourself. It would cost millions and not to mention the reorganisation of the rail network means it would be cost prohibitive. I do agree that this City's transport infrastructure is abysmal. The City is crying out for a metro system that links the towns together. Having a stop at the B365 would make sense.

Some seem unable to grasp this...brown envelopes etc. Nonsense. Ok C'mon Gravy The whole point of St Modwen being board members was to help with the stadium in large part. Was no secret or shenanigans. We could use that land as mentioned for a grant as there was no chance of raising funds elsewhere. Suited all parties and nothing wrong with that. I think some just fall into the trap of seeing land and assuming a football stadium could be plonked there ... I loved a post someone put on years ago...all Moxey did was get a grant and built a ground...anyone could have done that. 😁. Was a lot of pieces that needed to come together and not sure how we did it to be fair but was quite some doing and then to land the sponsorship we did. There was a plan for a stadium a bit like Huddersfield's I was fortunate enough to see but the St Modwen one was 'convenient' of course 😁 and cheaper . We were in a mess at the time

Let me see if I have this correct.
A council that's cut funding to everything and anything they can, and pleaded poverty for years should invest millions into a seldom used train station so folk can get to and from the game easier.
Have I got that right or am I missing something?

tbh a cheaper alternative would be seeing if you could put more footpaths going to places like Heron Cross, Fenton, Trentham etc. Going to more car parks or where buses can go.

What I was thinking with the walkways from the station but didn't realise was so far but do think your idea a solution in part. The railway station is simply never going to happen if previous attempts are anything to go by and to be honest can completely understand why it was a no go.

Serious question…. How many people bike to the game? Over here there’s thousands and thousands that do it attending various matches all over the country Very Few of us - and the BET365 Stadium provide limited support for cyclists (i.e covered bike stands as at Southamptons St Marys ground). It should also be noted that Stoke-on-Trent promotes itself as a cycling city.

Seems very shortsighted now, given what is there now. Football stadium, warehouses, new housing estates.
As mentioned the old coal sidings are still in situ, overgrown, but they are very long sidings and would have been ideal as a passing loop section.

On the face of it a stadium station sound a decent suggestion but even if one was in place it would of not made a scrap of difference last night as the bulk of the crowd were non stokie out of towners from all over the country and as we all know it's nigh on impossible to get anywhere by train after 9.30 pm

What is needed is a whole new ground. Let's face it, the Britannia is where we play our home games but it's not home for many. Build it somewhere with good bus routes from the all areas of the Potteries, ideally not far walk from to the Station. Where could it be built? Oh hang on
