Instead of pie in the sky million pound schemes the first thing that needs to happen is a local campaign for more trains and better use of the current network ..
more frequent stopping trains from Crewe / Derby / Manchester .. including greater use of platform 3 at SOT , if that hits a brick wall the timing of existing trains need to be urgently visited , Saturdays I think there’s two trains an hour from Crewe , but both leave within minutes of each other ..so effectively one an hour regards passenger numbers and convenience
Next is later last service trains ..timing of last service trains in this country ( other than the SE ) is deplorable
Those changes need to be campaigned for to help regenerate the city , helping matchday journeys & reducing car journeys is just one factor that’d benefit
..SOT station must be one of the least utilised main train stations in the country ( by passenger journeys ) ..you’ll not get additional funding for extra stations if current network usage is low ..if your council and local rail groups don’t have the experience or organisational skills to do that they need to speak to other councils north and south of the city who whilst not perfect , seem to have a better grip on the problem of improving , increasing local public transport use .. before spending millions on feasibility studies for schemes that aren’t going to happen

Is a train station by the ground a serious question? Who pays for it? How much would it cost?

There isn't a comparison between Green Park in Reading and Trentham Lakes. There's around 10,000 people employed at Green Park. And? The station was built because of the developments in the area not because of the football ground the developments in that area dwarf what has occurred at Trentham Lakes Not so sure about that last bit. Does the green park area have a hotel? Factories and a massive Sainsbury's distribution centre? Pound for pound I'd say they are the same. Also doesn't good transport increase development? Just asking.... It's also about time we did get some imagination of this sort....

How do you know it's so low? Have you asked Amazon, Sainsburys, Bet365, The Hotel and bar and the many many car firms on that site how much they employ? Where are your figures of 10K coming from. Come on this is just guesswork, the bottom line is there are PLENTY of reasons to build a satellite station there and not many against - other than just sheer Stoke wilfulness against any sort of improvement EVER. It's not a surprise this city is in the decline, that we need 1/2 a million people working in a quarter mile space before any transport investment can come along.

Coventry and Reading tell us that much.

Coventry and Reading tell us that much. Coventry and Reading stations have significant passenger numbers everyday for residential and commercial areas, the football traffic is a very minor part of the equation. What level of non football passengers would a Trentham Lakes station see? Hardly any.

It doesn't have a Sainsbury's Distribution hub whose shift patterns would put two changeovers outside any likely train operating times but does have a business park with over 7,000 employees and a conference centre.

The whole City is bereft of decent transport sadly this is another symptom, nobody could get a bus home from an evening or Sunday game apart from one or two routes now , very sad , they could put a match day halt there it would make sense. We used to have a fine local rail network until that c**t Beeching cut it and all we have had is cut cut cut and more shitty roads that just get clogged up with this country's obsession with the car

In particular the anti anything public Tory approach during the Thatcher era. She is alleged to have said " If a man finds himself a passenger on a bus at the age of 26 he can count himself a failure in life"
