So does any team that is promoted. Brighton didn't get that side in one season. Look who their manager is and look who we have. Do you seriously think O’Neill can, firstly get us outta this league and secondly get stability in the premier league???? Who’re you kidding!!!!! Calling him a whore a bit harsh but getting out of this division is the priority. One step at a time. As for O'Neill, barring the injury crisis of last term he certainly has enough to give it a crack as will possibly be his only shout with us.

Why is everyone so obsessed with a ‘target man’? Name me one! We need a forward who can win the ball in the air and link the play, whatever label we’re putting on that.

Why is everyone so obsessed with a ‘target man’? Name me one! There’s loads of lumps we could sign. I suppose another question would be name a mobile, strong target man who can lead the line, bring others into play, score, create and help defend our own box from set pieces. Oh and they’ve got to be free transfers on low wages. If they just do 2-3 of those things (ie lead the line and bring others into play) it would be a marked improvement.

As always - judge it after 10 games or so. Very difficult to tell how we're shaping up until we've seen the final team / squad bedded in.
Talk of promotion though at this stage is very much pie in the sky. We're just not geared up for it as a club in general (IMO) from the top down and we're still in the death throws of tidying up the horrific Rowett business. Until we are completely free of that nonsense we won't be able to properly build. Hopefully by the close of play of this window it will be done and dusted and from January onwards we can start to put down some proper foundations and not just sticking plasters.

I can see us signing Davis from Villa. He probably ticks 2/3 of those boxes but he’s got a poor goal scoring record. We need to realistically look at the squad and see 70 goals in order to stand a chance of top 6.

Gotta love them as can blithely ignore three years of evidence . . . I blame the schools. He's done a good job. Yes some of the football has been an excruciating watch, certainly at home, but considering what he walked into and the obvious mess he has had to sort out, he's done a good job. He has, regardless of financial restrictions, now got to start pushing us on as a genuine promotion threat, which I still believe he can and will do. If that doesn't happen then it's thanks for all the hard work you've put in in stabilising and rebuilding our football club, amd good luck for your future but we're gonna try something else. There certainly aren’t any more excuses now. He’s been backed, he’s had time, we can’t keep blaming 1-2 injuries on our implosion each season. If he doesn’t do it this season then he has to go.

I’d be very pleased if we got him think he’ll complement what we have. Moving Powell to cover any absences should allow us to develop a pretty consistent way of playing.

You need someone who’ll make it stick in the final third.

A target man is essential when you are playing a counter attacking game but that isn't our plan A - we try to press from midfield and the type of striker is quite different - players who can make clever runs in behind rather than play with their back to goal and bring others in. We are light in terms of strikers and weay we'll get a target man but I wouldn't be surprised if we went for a plan A striker as well.

Not well - we have struggled to break teams down, particularly at home. You need a striker with some presence and some ability to create space for your other attacking players. If they can hold the ball up and draw defenders it opens things up for your quicker and trickier attacking players. It’s not a question of just getting some lump in to win headers, it’s essentially a younger version of Fletcher or a slightly more mobile striker of that ilk to lead the line.

MoN is at his best in the summer, when there is no match day .
Getting older high wage complacent players out and younger quicker cheaper plays in
In the close season everything seems to move in the right direction and their is lots of evidence that strategically MoN and Dean Holden are moving in the right direction.
The way , they are changing the squad is logical and right
All this is great but let's remember, we get down to the nitty gritty at 3pm on the 30 July at Millwall
The real question about MoN and Dean Holden is are they going to make the right decisions at the right time between 3pm and 5pm on a Saturday afternoon at places like the New Den, Millwall
There has been loads of logical joined up thinking by MoN and Dean Holden in the closed season but not enough inspired risk taking and making an early judgement in the heat of battle on match day.
Potentially if the pair of them could be as good on match day as they are in the closed season, then the club could really fly
Their is nothing wrong with MoN or Dean Holden strategy wise , but they are going to need to be a lot more ruthless and risk taking on match day if they are going to move the club forward
Interesting times ...if ...big if ...MoN , Dean Holden and the players ALL show more bottle on match day, this can be a great season
If they don't and play it safely safely then my it's going to be boring and end up with them deservedly being shown the door

We’ve got Brown and Campbell who both played best off Fletcher despite his physical condition falling off a cliff. Surely the best idea would be a fitter version of him as plan A. Saw nothing else that looked like it had the promise to be a better approach.

I don't think signing Kieffer Moore or Lyndon Dykes means they're going to start heading it to Stoke players. Nor if we don't have someone like them does it mean we can't put a cross into the box and score a header.

This will be the season where our manager rams the words of the know nowts down their know nothing throats If he doesn't, he can leave with my best wishes amd give someone else a go Whilst you are jesting, I am of this opinion. We need to show big improvement this season of he is to remain next year. This doesn't necessarily mean getting promoted or even making the play offs at a push. A similar season to the 2006 / 07 would do for me. With the type of signings made so far I'm confident of play offs but we still need a few additions GK and FWD mainly. Many a true word is said in jest mar mate

How can you honestly say he’s done a good job? That first season he did very well just to keep us up after Jones and that horrible Ba#%ard Rowett did their damage. The last couple of seasons has seen little or no improvement, any other club would of sacked him after last season and you know it!!!!! Peas.

I don’t know how you expect to beat the teams we struggled to break down last season by just doing the same thing again. So it’s try a different approach. So the ability to play lofted balls into the box from deeper is an option another would be to commit more players forward earlier. So are you saying more of the same or which of those options is MON most likely to take or have you got something completely different in mind?
