www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/gavin-kilkenny-poised-for-loan-move-to-stoke-41806279.htmlIreland U-21 midfielder Gavin Kilkenny is set for a loan move from Bournemouth to Stoke. The 22-year-old is due to travel to England today to undergo a medical and complete a temporary switch to Michael O'Neill's side. The St Kevin's Boys product has been converted into a deeper lying midfield role in recent seasons both with club and country. He is an important member of Jim Crawford's Ireland U-21 squad and the proposed move to Stoke is attractive to all parties.

He played as a defensive midfielder at our place last season when they beat us 1-0.
I'm liking these types of signings.........

Thought he played against us either last season a tough battling midfielder in the ex PNE Pearson role.

Used to like his beer. Similar to caffreys but tasted better.

He was linked with Newcastle before. A position we need to strengthen

I know the NTT20 lads think highly of him.
Gavin ‘the big switch’ Kilkenny.
Think he’s a decent player by all accounts.

Only played 15 times for Bournemouth last year (I think).
But when he did play, think he did well by all accounts.

Judging by his interview, he seems to view himself as very much a technical player, and the dirty side of the game doesn't come especially naturally.
And he started as a winger or attacking midfielder and has gradually moved back. So not really a defensive midfielder in that sense
Seems a very nice guy though.
Just pushed out in January when Bournemouth were buying and loaning everything that moved. Only played once after Christmas.

He played GAA and Hurley for Dublin as a youngster so obviously a tough enough type. Great name as well so ok with me

You’d think Thompson might be off if this fella signs?

Looks exactly what we need.
My only concern is with 352 looking likely and Baker and Laurent playing in front of him where does Powell fit in?
He played 15 games in a decent Bournemouth side so don't think he's coming as cover.

You’d think Thompson might be off if this fella signs? Think we need a pool of four for those deeper midfield roles.

You’d think Thompson might be off if this fella signs? Doubt it. I don’t think Thompson is on particularly big money or anything and this is a loan signing too. Thompson is a good rotation player to have in the squad imo.

Always good when a young player comes with ready made experience of the level we are playing at.

www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/12589909/efl-awards-2022-aleksandar-mitrovic-harry-wilson-dominic-solanke-shortlisted-for-sky-bet-championship-player-of-the-seasonThey discuss him on the video half way down here, about 3:20 in. His passing looks very good "We nicknamed him the big switch, because all he seems to do is get the ball at the base of the midfield - and if you've got good wide players holding the width, Kilkenny will find them with these wedged passes out wide "And to have the vision and ability to execute it is a really valuable skill. The perfect midfield metronome" "He's obviously pretty small, so in terms of dominating midfield battles, he might find that quite difficult, he's very tenacious and his positioning is very good, his awareness is good, he doesn't seem to jump into tackles unnecessarily "I think it's going to be difficult for his progression given how stacked Bournemouth are in those areas and how willing they are to spend money to give him the game time he needs at 22 and he has only burst onto the first-team scene this season. "So whether he gets the opportunities he needs? He was linked with a loan to Blackpool in January. It feels like if his next move is going to be having to move away to get games, he's going to struggle to get the move he needs up to the Premier League

We'll be doing everything in our power to shift Fox and Clucas I'm sure, whether there is any takers is another story.......

Small - same sort of size as Allen. But from memory was a good metronomic presence and had a welcome bit of niggle and needle as well.
