Since we have signed 2 centre mids who will expect to start and Baker looks nailed on, could this mean Powell is going to be seen more as a striker if everyone is fit

Powell? Other than that DWP? Could be short in that dept Yep. If the plan is 3-4-3 with Powell on the left then it’s going to be marginalising our best creative player again and asking an awful lot of the wing backs. Yea. Not a fan of 3-4-3 for our squad either. We just dont have the wide forwards, and we have wing backs which that formation doesn’t suit. 3-5-2 or 4-2-3-1 but again the latter doesn’t suit our current squad. Who knows?!

They also seem to have extended his deal to 2026 - so fair to say they view him as one they want to keep Or give them room for more money from sale in future. Do they not follow our system of loan them out until they become freebies?!

“He’s a very good player; he builds the game and that’s something we felt we needed with Joe Allen having left the Club and hopefully he’ll be a really good addition and help us play the way we want to play.
“He’s highly motivated, he wants to play and doesn’t want to sit on the bench and be a bit part player. That’s what we’ve targeted this season – players that are motivated to play, improve and make us a better team.”
I know you can say 'well, it's a squad game and that gives us 4 (Baker, Laurent, Kilkenny, Thompson) broadly of that type - with Powell a bit different.
And we'll need them all over a 46-game season, with injuries and stuff etc.
But Rory's comments do hint at him being one of those players you can ink in for 30+ starts and him being another in the 'pretty much start when fit' category.
And you can say the same, without doubt, for Baker and Laurent.
So it does raise questions about Powell who seems an equally nailed-on starter - but where?
He could start, at the moment, on the left of the forward roles in a 3-4-3 Or as one of the strikers in a 3-5-2.
But you'd hope we had another wide player and a physical forward on our to-do list - and maybe Sawyers too?

Not sure if this has been posted and yes it is against lower league opposition, but he looks solid based on this outing.

Surely judging by that picture Rory could still put a shift in. Last 20 mins. Rory throws in. Delap (on loan) scores. (it’s some sort of Mai Thai sativa and Guinness for those playing along at home) 🚬

Not sure if this has been posted and yes it is against lower league opposition, but he looks solid based on this outing. Kill Kenny, Baker and Laurent all seem to score goals from range. They should chip in with around 10-15 goals between them excluding Bakers penalties. We’ve not had CM’s that contribute enough goals in the last few years so hopefully these 3 can change that.

www.footballinsider247.com/sources-blackburn-rovers-in-advanced-talks-to-sign-bournemouth-star-gavin-kilkenny/Sources: Blackburn Rovers in advanced talks to sign Bournemouth star Gavin Kilkenny Blackburn Rovers are in advanced talks to sign Bournemouth midfielder Gavin Kilkenny, sources have told Football Insider. Kilkenny, 22, has spent the first half of the season on loan at Stoke, but that deal is set to be cancelled to allow him to join Blackburn. The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has made just four appearances during his loan stint at Stoke and Bournemouth have recalled him as they want the midfielder to be playing more regular first-team football. Blackburn have a deal in place to sign Kilkenny ahead of Championship rivals and are confident of securing a full agreement.

If AN isn't planning on playing him then makes sense to get him out the door and bring someone in that he wants.

Crazy that he couldn’t get on the pitch, front footed positive player that can pass, incredible he couldn’t get ahead of a white cannon ball with legs and the invisible man 🙈🥹

What a dogs fucking dinner letting O'Neil wreak this level of havoc when everyone knew the game was up before the bastard summer window even opened.

I get that he's now fit but he's been made of glass since he arrived. Another MON loan signing that AN doesn't fancy. Move on and hope he's freed up a wage to use on someone to help haul us up the table. Gouranga.

It's not really Alex Neil's fault, all managers for one reason or another don't fancy certain players, move him on and do what we can to address the on field issue's.

The whole summer was a car crash but we've just got to look forward now. Clearly AN doesn't fancy him, may as well be rid, free up wages and a loan space and bring in players he does.
