Christ on a bike, finally a defensive midfielder signing.
I've got a Bournemouth mate at work so I'll ask him, although he did say Surridge was a decent player.

If 'gentle approach' means 'doesn't give away stupid free kicks that cost us goals' I'll be ok with that. We needed a bit more midfield cover so good to see it building. I think we will shift Clucas, but urgently need cover for Powell too.

It certainly looks like (currently) us having a young and relatively inexperienced match day squad. 'You can't win anything with kids' He'll have Flint behind him

Looks exactly what we need. My only concern is with 352 looking likely and Baker and Laurent playing in front of him where does Powell fit in? He played 15 games in a decent Bournemouth side so don't think he's coming as cover. He doesn’t. Defensive mid plus Baker and Laurent free to play.

22.4 years.
Plays between the boxes, across the whole width of the field, more frequently in his own half. More passes from left to right. More square ball than forward passer. So a DM.
A "blocking, intercepting, recovering" type of defensive player. Does do a fair bit of tackling (but not very effectively).
Lots of efficient passing in his own half and in the opposition half. When he does go long/through ball he finds a player just over half the time (better than average). Can't find a single cross he's put in.
Not one for aerial duels & loses three quarters of them.
Attacking contribution. Zero assists, but two, mostly low grade chances created every three full games for a team mate.
Slightly better than a goal attempt every two full 90's. All low grade efforts, 20-25 yards out, average xG ~0.04, mostly right footed, a couple swerved a bit.
Looks a solid collector of loose balls & circulator of possession.

Not what I was hoping for but I’ll judge it on how it works not my preferences.

Probably the third best option we could have had from Bournemouth behind Pearson and Lewis Cook. Can't be any worse than Allen and he's young, won't have any future at Bournemouth so if he does well he's ours, go on lad!

ITK's in despair two signings running I think this signing is what we need Have to say I'm really impressed with our business in the window so far There aren’t any ITKs are there anymore? Think this sort of shows it anyway

Unless we play 433 with two very attacking fullbacks and Powell plays on left of front three I don't see where he plays. I have had the feeling for a while that Stoke are not happy letting him run his contract down. Hope I'm wrong but O'Neill has made a few comments about the balance of midfield. I think he wants to play with a DM & two 8s. I think Baker is a cert for one spot but can we keep Powell and Laurent happy rotating in the other? I may be way off and Kilkenny is signing as just a squad player but don't see why he would sign if he was only getting the odd game.

Mate how does he compare to Thompson in that role? 🙌

Sounds a bit like Ryan Woods Woods didn’t do any blocking, intercepting or recovering. He huffed and puffed around the pitch half a step behind the play.

We'll be doing everything in our power to shift Fox and Clucas I'm sure, whether there is any takers is another story....... I imagine it will be a loan to a Preston/Millwall where we'll get bummed on the percentages. Ouch.

Only played 15 times for Bournemouth last year (I think). But when he did play, think he did well by all accounts. 15 starts in a promoted side - could well be genuine first 11 material for us then rather than just a squadie.
