I take it the guy you are talking about who's not Gordon is the one whcost us our only realistic shot at the title by leaving to join a team with no games left to play? That guy right? İ never understood why Matthews did that, it cost us the title yet he was seen after as a legend!! He was a football legend but he let Stoke down for something that I think was unforgiveable to walk out when we were on the verge of winning the title

It’s the truth though isn’t it. And you're a misery guts😁 Yes and no. I mean the actual best suggestion so far is Crouchy for the reason Gods mentioned. But that’s so cringey so just proves my point. You need someone known outside of SOT and probably now someone that is a bit younger than the 70s lot because more and more people will simply not have a clue who they are.

I always liked the prestige of having names like Sir Stan and Gordon Banks attached to the club, but is it still a common title in football?
I couldn't remember if Bobby Charlton held the position at Man United, but having checked he's always been listed as a Director as they wanted a 'name' on the board following the passing of Sir Matt Busby.
It also leads to confusion internationally. For example, on some overseas websites they list Richard Arnold as the 'Manchester United President' (perhaps in the corporate sense?) yet his official title is Chief Executive.

The 70s crew aren’t known outside of Stoke bar Denis who won’t be known outside of Stoke who isn’t over 60. Macari does it for Man Yoo. Crouch would just be awful. I’d be in favour of Mama, Abdy Faye or Salif though who can reach globally. That would seem to have a point.

This is kind of my point! It'd be great to see what he actually does and how he's ambassadoring. If its very involved they could even follow him around and put some content on YouTube.

That's why Banks was such a good person for it.

I know Man Yoo employ theirs for matchday roles. Is it a common thing?

Christs sakes. It’s clearly a bit of a pat on the back and a way of rewarding our club legends, what’s wrong with that? It gives an opportunity to give recognition, doesn’t cost us anything really and if you’re not interested in that side of the club then don’t read about it. The word is ‘nitpicker’.

I don't know what being our president involves. Other than it's a huge honour and supporters like to reward great servants

I hope he is because he does some excellent work. And that's what is needed imo. More people doing stuff like that. That has a point. It's like Mama being an ambassador for the club, what does he actually do? Tell us. It sounds like it could be interesting.

I’m not taking about either of those people or roles, I’d ask the people who are talking about them. Imagine moaning about someone in a role which has no bearing on your actual life. The epitome of sad.

I see the role very much as honorary and a figure head who has not only done a lot for the club but also the game.
Before its too late I would suggest the man who broke the freedom to move, member of the 66 WC winning squad, and scored the winner for Stoke's only major trophy.
There are obvious barriers to George being the figurehead but I think we should honour him even if he is "unavailable".
