I hate these sites where you have to register to see if tickets are available. The process to find tickets for an event at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham is ridiculous, and I wonder how many people it puts off. Partly related, because I was looking for the women's 200m, and all the official site listed by default was the men's events.
So yeah, I was thinking about buying tickets for the Euro 2022 final in the hope England get there, but I can't see if tickets are available without registering with UEFA.

Sweden are favourites, according to Brazil and Sweden.

I think England vs Sweden in the final gives the least money back, according to our National Sv Spel (Swedish games).

And yet there are people here who say women's football is dying. Compare Euro 2022 to Euro 2005 in England, when tickets didn't sell out at ÂŁ5 each, and all the games were at smaller stadiums in the northwest.

Tournaments seem to do well but league games the complete opposite. Still 750 at games in some cases. Not dying but not justifying the coverage at league level. The ticketing for the Euros in England was a farce. Some refused tickets for games that weren't sold out as you had to apply for several games in some cases.

A tournament like this should help improve league support as players become more familiar to the general public. And I think the coverage is justified given the ban on women's football and lack of support from the media in the past. There used to be some right old crap on Grandstand with barely one man and his dog in the live audience - and mostly sports featuring men. The England captain used to have to phone newspapers just to get a score printed the next morning.

Grandstand was a different era, not sure how you can justify games with 300 people at them live on TV and unless it does pick up it won't last as a TV sport perhaps. It doesn't help to an extent when a huge gulf at the tournament's also as we saw with say Thailand who were pretty much humiliated at the WC but I guess we saw that with El Salvador etc in the 70s in the men's game. Personally don't think the league game will grow at all, be like NFL was here, the Wembley game sells out but the attempted league failed to catch on. Winning the tournament certainly do no harm though

It might take 5 years but I think the domestic league crowds will grow. It is a bit tricky with TV. On the one hand it’s good exposure but atm all games are live which must hit attendances.
A weird thing is how few black players are coming through. It’s a bit middle class at the moment all round. Infrastructure and distances to centres of excellence make it harder for inner city kids to make it.
Anyway back to the tournament, two days to go and getting in the mood now. Road trip to Manc Weds with daughter on the aux cord then fan park in town before a couple beers and off to match.
2-0 England break down stubborn defence to leave Viennese in a whirl..

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61717918Bit of spin but viewing figures are up on tv. This championship will only help but got to hope they don't get greedy. Free to air games should hopefully cement the growth. I can see me watching more as absolutely pissed off getting milked by having to subscribe to Sky, BT, Amazon, Premier Sports and La Liga TV for what I used to get from one subscription for the blokes.

Winning the tournament certainly do no harm though Grandstand was largely in an era when there were 5 channels or less, so arguably it made less sense for the BBC to show the minority sports it did back then. Sadly I don't see women's football catching up with men's football any time soon, but it's not going to be instant, and more and more girls are playing football. It'll grow, but it'll take time. Someday soon there will be a female superstar footballer who will help grow the game worldwide. If I was a top young female footballer, I'd be tempted to try and cross freestyle with the pro game. Sadly, I think injury ended Liv Cooke's professional football career:

I do think they, the TV channels are trying too hard with the league game if that all makes sense .

Road trip to Manc Weds with daughter on the aux cord then fan park in town before a couple beers and off to match. 2-0 England break down stubborn defence to leave Viennese in a whirl.. Did you watch the Alex Scott documentary? It’s dodgy ground for a middle aged white bloke to comment on but there was something a bit weird about a black player with 140 caps speaking to another former black player who is on the diversity taskforce about a black player who stopped playing due to perceived racism which is affecting grassroots claim there is nobody in the existing squad she can relate to when Parris has 65 caps. Although that in itself opens a further Pandora’s box as they’d be both on separate pages of the Dulux colour chart so possibly there’s nobody black enough on the team to relate to which in itself would be kind of well erm erm…... Anyway, I really couldn’t get my head around how it could be possibly racism for the drop off in young girls because surely the same would be happening at boys grassroots level unless that’s me being misogynistic too? That’s not to deny there probably is racism in the women’s game but equally if I was asked to name the first ten England female footballers to come to my head Scott, Yankee, Aluko and Parris would all be in there so the role models exist. Is it more a class thing where poorer families haven’t the resources? Again though it is exploding so there’s girls teams popping up all over the shop – some of the u8’s sides from Dundee look like they could handle themselves in a bar fight let alone 4 aside. Whenever players from the team are interviewed a lot of them always come across as, for want of a better phrase, normal folk from normal backgrounds rather than girls who have chosen to play football over tennis or croquet at their grammar school so unless it has developed more along those lines with funding recently I don’t know. It was a bit dispiriting too though that we went from struggling to getting kids playing out of deprived backgrounds playing grassroots to discussing improved tv deals whereas having it on the Beeb regularly is going to do, and is doing, absolute wanders in growing the game – the women’s Champions League is on DAZN and how many are genuinely going pay £8 a month specifically to watch it? The WSL are on £20k to £250k a year and from memory think the average is about £50k-£60k which is in line with the league in the US after they seem to have learnt from their previous mistakes. Couldn’t help think though that the women are looking at what the blokes are getting which is dangerous territory given they seem a few years off breaking even as it is. Hope this tournament propels it further and absolutely no issue women footballers getting paid the market rate but there’s a tightrope to walk for a few years yet – really hope greed doesn’t burst what is going on as the growth at the moment seems something special.

I think racism happened under that dodgy coach a while back for sure. But the point I was making echoes your one on class. Some women are excluded structurally as academies or whatever are miles away, and it might take a while for the growth in playing to offer a pathway through for inner city youth. And in many cities that means a lot of kids from BAME communities. Let’s hope Scotland get thru their playoff(s) for World Cup…

And already at 3 p.m I will see the semi final Spain-Sweden in the ladies U19 Euro Champs. Unbelievably, this game aren't on TV here!! So it will be a tiny stream on my mobile phone.
I hope for a double gold obviously.
