Best footballer I have seen play for Stoke and I missed a large chunk of his first spell, was a regular when he returned. One word, genius.
Worth watching for other players also.
Happy Birthday legend.

He’ll be no doubt enjoying an orange juice with a subtle hint of Vodka in the Prinny tonight. Many happy returns Huddy🍻

My only footballing hero.
His 2nd spell with thinning hair and socks rolled down was remarkable but it was not a patch on his first spell as prime time Huddy, the King of the Kings Road, strolling around running the operation, seemingly bored by the mediocrity around him.
A footballer so good it was fucking ridiculous. No apologoes for the expletive, there is no other way to describe it.
Happy Birthday Alan, I salute you !

My all time favourite Stoke player. He was absolutely imperious during his first spell with us and I was devastated when he left. Magnificent player !
Happy Birthday Huddy !

One of the best players I've ever seen. In that first spell he really did "walk on water". Happy Birthday Alan.

Happy birthday Alan Hudson. Thanks for the wonderful skill and entertainment you provided, for all of us lucky enough to have witnessed your performances for Stoke. It is a treat to watch those match day highlights from the seventies shown at the start of this thread. Just imagine if the forthcoming season at Stoke City featured a team including Banks, Smith, Greenhoff and Hudson.

Never mind that he was long past his sell-by date, that performance when he made his return against Arsenal is the single most devastatingly brilliant solo performance I've ever seen. Utter genius.
Just wish I'd been old enough to fully appreciate what I was watching when he was here the first time round.

Best player ever for Stoke - certainly since 1970 when I started watching him …… WAY ahead of Greenhoff, Crooks, Crouch, Fuller, Arnie etc etc etc Only player who came close to him - for me - was N’Zonzi

Always seemed to have some much time. Fantastic player with vision, passing, awareness - the complete attacking midfielder. Happy Birthday Huddy.
Love that Derby video. They won the league that year didn't they? That god awful Baseball Ground, but 2 of my favourite ever goals from Jimmy Greenhoff. What a superb volley he had. Still one of the best I've seen to this day.
And that header - amazing. A fairly crap cross that was behind him with not much pace - he virtually made the goal out of nothing. Running back away from goal and twisting the header with power into the other corner. Fantastic technique. 2 great players in a very good team. Should have won the first division that year...

I only saw Huddy in his second spell, and he was good then (with Sammy Mac to do all his leg work for him,)but i'd also say i've seen the likes of Chamberlain,Hoekstra,Arnie et al do stuff on/with the ball that maybe AH may have struggled to do? Different roles demand different attributes etc... However,Hudson operated in congested midfield areas where players tend to have less time than players operating in wider areas of the pitch, suffice to say that I agree that the only Stoke midfield player i've seen come close to Huddy was N'zonzi, imho, who had the same gift for creating time on the ball despite being surrounded by opponents, but perhaps lacked Hudson's incisive edge? Acknowledge that people who were fortunate enough to see AH in his absolute pomp will assuredly disagree (old farts.) 😉

The only player to give me goosebumps and make my neck hairs tingle whenever he collected the ball on the edge of our penalty area, put his foot on the ball, look up and move forward…..you just knew something good would happen. Waddo gave him free reign as a box to box midfield player but Terry Neil fucked Huddy over when he went to Arsenal by trying to contain his game. AH was a genius and nobody came close.
