As a now single man I’ve lost my fondness for cooking and have started chucking any old shite in the oven to satisfy my hunger cravings and hate going supermarkets. Tried Hellofresh for a few weeks but found the menu limited after a while and the portions a bit small although I was cooking portions for two saving some for next days lunch. Any recommendations? Only sensible posts considered Iancransonsknees and Felonious😉

Buy a big cooking pot and just throw a load of chopped veg in (can even just buy pre-chopped frozen if you're feeling really lazy), few stock cubes, extra virgin olive oil (or avocado oil if you're posh like me), tin of tomatoes or whatever the fuck else takes your fancy (I chuck a jar of curry mix in and chop chillis & bell peppers etc etc, sometimes a jar of chick peas).
Lightly simmer for a few hours. Buy a ready cooked whole chicken but don't throw it in (keep it separate in the fridge, then the stew lasts longer) and just put the chicken/stew in a bowl whenever you're peckish. It's piece of piss, tasty, nutritious etc etc and you can eat off it for probably a week.
If you're going down the delivery rabbit hole it's tough not to end up gaining weight and spending a small fortune for the privilege (guess I spent £5k on food apps eating garbage over the last few years) not to mention feeling like total shit alongside all the other physical health issues.

Sounds good. Although I was talking about Hellofresh, Gousto etc who produce menus and recipes for a balanced diet. Not Deliveroo take away deliveries🤣

Can't say I've tried them although I did used to get fruit/vegetable deliveries from abel & cole which were decent (but expensive as it's all organic) you used to be able to select what you got but they did away with that during lockdown and I haven't checked again. (might be back to normal) Maybe worth a look and doing the introductory offers at least, could be something on there along the lines of hello fresh. Just can't tell you if it's good value or a ripoff. I personally like organic produce and don't bother peeling potatoes/carrots etc, but really it's not that important except for certain produce (sweet fruits mainly) that are particularly attractive to pests so will be laden with pesticides if you don't buy organic....but are about 4x more expensive if you buy organic.

I couldn’t face shelling out for organic produce, I’d need a substantial pay rise. I actually like your first recommendation, not got any large cooking pots but it makes sense to do something like this especially from a financial point of view. Cheers👍🏻

Actually was serious. My Mrs is a chef though. She's one of those who cooks pots of food from exotic locations using veg and spice have never heard and I have a microwaved hotdog instead. . I hate how the fizzy sugar gathers in the bottom of the Haribo bags as well.

Not that I recollect but will request one evening. It’s very simple, just pour the water you e cooked them in into a mug with a big of salt and pepper. Jobs a good un. At least it felt that way when I drank it at 4am after an all day bender in Benidorm when I was 18. I’m sure it still will be

Get yourself an air fryer and experiment.
Brilliant for peppers, mushrooms, baked potatoes, sausages, loads of stuff.
Here’s one quick suggestion… mushroom black pudding burger; two big mushrooms with a slice of Stornaway black pudding in between and a topping of apple sauce and some coleslaw. No bread mind. Delicious. If you feeling hungry, add a pork loin steak.
Quick, easy and no problem to keep clean.

Does roadkill in it, don't think he's stooped to badger but wood pigeon and rabbit have turned out okay.

Although I did like his Squirrel Bhuna recipe I'll eat most things but draw the line at squirrel, they've got personality. They were top of the tree in our garden for entertainment during lockdown. Many's the time I excused myself from a teams meeting to feed my squirrel.

On a serious note I'd try loads of veg curries, very easy to make and you usually get a couple of portions.
Helps when the bride knocks up a stunning home made garlic naan to accompany it though.

It was like a squirrel Zombie apocalypse, they came from everywhere but were very tame, I liked them.

Also bakes and broils rather than buying a uni tasker to clutter the place up. Less power too. Goodly amount of spuds in the big pan. That way you can have mashers, potato cakes. With air frying croquettes are quick and easy. Par boil and finish in the air fryer for pub roastys.* Par boil Brussels and then bake or fry with a little balsamic. Chestnuts in season a must. Buy a jar of peanut sauce. Cut a cuq into thin strips. Choppped chicken…your in Thailand *I am a little like the fiction Peter Beardsley and his eggs..but with potatoes.

Don't see them so often now we're not wfh full time, still come running over when you call them though. How about exchanging your body for food with some older lady or gentleman? I'm sure they'd show their gratitude.

You can make the stuff they proffer for half the price (and with better, cheaper ingredients most of the time) if only you could bother your arse to go to Tesco. If you're pushed for time though, can't muster the enthusiasm to plan and cook meals, want to save money AND lose weight then I'd recommend developing a fair to middling methamphetamine habit.
