Come out. It’s funny because at no stage ever have I ever thought anything other than her being gay. Which begs the question, what made me think she was gay?🤔 Maybe I’ve got a gaydar!

It's a bit like when Philip Schofield came out or, back in the day, Billie Jean King. How was anybody surprised?

I saw this “story” and was wondering why is it a “story”.
It matters not a jot to me what her sexuality is.
I suspect that is how most people think.
But, based on her comments, it’s clearly something that worried her. Which made me realise we still have some way to go where people feel completely comfortable about how society view their sexuality.

But what I really want to know is, is it possible to be in possession of a gaydar?😉

It's a bit like when Philip Schofield came out or, back in the day, Billie Jean King. How was anybody surprised? Yeah, can't imagine anybody was. Same with Tom Daley and Colin Jackson. But partick makes a good point about people still not feeling comfortable about it. Football being the prime example, although a start has been made by Jake Daniels at Blackpool.

Or it's something you think about a lot ...... and over time you've just got quite good at it. There was a time I was quite good at spotting boob jobs - these days it's more about spotting club root on a runner bean. All about priorities at a particular time of life I suppose.

OK. So she has "come out", along with many other athletes I expect. There will probably be a rush of others following her example and saying that she has inspired them. I have got to the point where I suspect that the majority of people are secretly "Gay", especially swimmers, athletes and footballers. Pehaps we should assume that everybody is probably gay until they make a statement to the contrary, in the same way that people can be thought guilty until proven innocent.
I am with the OP in saying that I would have been more surprised if Ms Holmes had made a statement that she wasn't gay.

At the distance of Kelly Holmes who I don't know and I - as have others - always assumed to be gay it's quite easy to take the view of 'Meh - so what'.
However having recently experienced a member of the extended family 'come out' I can vouch it is still ' a thing'.
Again I would have laid money on his sexuality if asked - sterotypes exist for a reason - a 'sensitive' lad, more comfortable with female chat at family gatherings etc - but a really nice guy who has recently graduated in medicine and someone to be proud of.
His mother has known for 5 years but telling others recently has not been without consequences and some relatives have expressed 'sadness', 'disappointment' and even 'disgust'.
From that you can see the pressure people in that position feel and if those closest to them can be like that then the view of the wider world can become distorted.
I don't want to become all po- faced about this - in fact I'm of the opinion appropriate humour can very much help.
Nevertheless I do think we're not yet at the stage where we can just say ' So what?

Your amongst friends here Owd fella. Now you just need a thermos of Horlicks and a checkered knee blanket and you’ll be all set. Do remember how cold the ground is though. Assless chaps are going to be a bear to pull of in Hanley (as it were!) Maybe suck on a fisherman’s friend?

My recent trip to San Diego’s Gay Pride Month has opened my eyes👀 Well, other references where you encourage members to ‘try your hot dog tea’ and ‘I tried it once abroad when I was young and quite liked it’ lead me to believe so. Is it Burt Reynolds’s like at this point after lock down or more of a Clint Eastwood/Western theme after SD?
