This is an excellent signing. If you go 4-3-3, Baker, Laurent and Powell is a delectable midfield 3. Of course, we have Clarke too. Then you've got the potential of Nyambe joining. On paper, we're getting a bloody good championship side assembled. Souttar back, hopefully Campbell finding form. IF MON plays this team to it's strengths, you would hope this will finally be the season we've all been waiting for. The proof however will be in the pudding. But so far, it's positive signs. The signings are encouraging but if Michael doesn’t get a tune out of them his P45 should be on its way by crimbo. Sorry for the semi Hyaduck post btw

Used properly, this is likely to be the single most important signing of our window. (Unless Nyambe signs). But business wise, surely seeing the back of Afobe trumps everything 😂

Some decent signings with hopefully more to come. If he can't get a tune out of these lads and we end up being served more of the utter dross we witnessed earlier this year then it's curtains surely?

He's not a Reading fan. He seems to be a bit of a bluffer who offers up a hot take on everything based on superficial knowledge. He was claiming Flint was a great fit here last week.

Laurent does seem a bit samey to what we have but bigger. I’m worried he’ll be in a 3 with Allen and Baker and that seems very dry.

In reading about Laurent on Reading’s website I noted they are playing Benfica and West Ham in pre-season friendlies. We’re playing Cork, Accrington Stanley and Bristol Rovers. Where’s our ambition? To stay where we are as mediocre mid-table team or one that aspires to promotion?

With a douse of brexit and a sprinkle of anti immigration on top.

They could play Barca pre season and will make no difference

I mean SLP are a joke, Lee and Mark I mean come on It'd been called by 50 accounts previously that the deal was done, i did break it down previously but SLP have literally never, ever broken a Stoke news story so I don't see why that would change now.

Nothing at all wrong with upping the quality of the competition. No matter where they are from. Whether or not we win/lose them doesn't matter. But I think our slow starts have something to do with this.

We can’t have any pre season home friendlies due to the work being done on the stadium. So in short, there’s your answer. Wouldn’t be surprised if we play a PL team or touring team from Europe behind closed doors at Clayton Wood though.

To stay where we are as mediocre mid-table team or one that aspires to promotion? How many times does it need to be said that preseason is mainly about getting the players fit and getting the new squad familiar with formations and tactics etc? In the past we have had preseasons where we have (like this year) played mostly against clubs below us in the league. I say mostly, because we announced yesterday that there will be a behind closed doors game against a current Premier League club. In other preseasons we have played some games against top flight European clubs. Do you have any evidence to support your implied suggestion that the higher the calibre of opposition in preseason, the higher our finishing position in the season which follows?

Both should want to be starting games and neither should consider themselves to be backup or an automatic starter. Every player needs to earn their place in the starting 11 - not expect to have it written into their contract of employment. You not read Laurent comments about MoN assuring him of playing then 🙄🤣 No - and if I did I wouldn't read it to mean he's been told he's a guaranteed starter. Do you really think he'll be in the starting 11 if he's out of form? 🤔

I watched him give Liverpool a torrid time in the cup and score against us. So i was disappointed and surprised he ended up at Reading. So when he was on the Shrewsbury released list it really was a no brainer to try and sign him. I don't give any credit to our recruitment team for this signing even I could have earmarked him.I guess credit to MON for making SCFC attractive to him and seemingly his mate Ty had a hand in the signing. Definitely a welcome addition and look forward to watching him play.
