www.stokecityfc.com/news/2022/june/21/welcoming-josh/“The manager went down to London to talk to me and that meant a lot. He told me how much he wanted me and assured me that I would play. It was all down to him really because he made me feel wanted and spelt out how he felt he could progress my career.”

Successful teams need a squad of players though and good backup in key areas. If Clarke gets injured after the window closes we're choosing from Wilmot or Duhaney as a back up. We got caught like that last year and it showed at times. I couldn't give a shiny shit what Arsenal want in fairness also. You send a player out on loan, you take your choice unless you specify it in the loan contract.
That’s not the point , neither play would come here as back up , they would both expect be starting games Both should want to be starting games and neither should consider themselves to be backup or an automatic starter. Every player needs to earn their place in the starting 11 - not expect to have it written into their contract of employment.

thetilehurstend.sbnation.com/2022/6/21/23174618/goodbye-to-josh-laurent-reading-fc-royalsHis performances on the pitch, particularly in his first season, magnified just how much of a bargain we got with him. He was imperious, adding the energy, aggression and quality in central midfield that we’d been missing since the departure of Danny Williams. He was an integral part of that team that narrowly missed out on the play offs.
Although he didn’t get on the score sheet much or get an abundance of assists, he dragged us through games at times with his sheer presence on the pitch. He could drive through midfield and turn defence into attack in an instant. He was a joy to watch in that first season.
One thing that doesn’t make any of this easier too is that Laurent will be lining up alongside Lewis Baker in midfield next season - that’s just rubbing salt into the already gaping wounds.
Laurent will be a big, big miss. Not just on the pitch, but off it too. It’s going to be incredibly difficult to replace him, and his departure just makes me even more worried for the season to come.

All sounds positive. Laurent and Baker in the middle next season then.

Used properly, this is likely to be the single most important signing of our window.
(Unless Nyambe signs).

The off field stuff sounds really promising - this team needs a bit of character and good old fashioned gumption !

I’m assuming Josh Laurent is actually Hyaduck and he’ll be signing when he gets back from Dubai? Although with all that internet, you’d expect DocuSign would work. Josh is already signed youth, will be unveiled Friday!!!!!More bullshit, I don’t know how you manage to do it.

Sounds good!
It'll be interesting to see where this leads with the other midfielders now.

Nyambe is a right back, think he'd be absolutely transformative if we genuinely have any chance of signing him. Sounds like Laurent can play any kind of midfield role, has a good engine and some steel. Hopefully we'll have him playing a disciplined role with Baker just ahead of him.

I'm not sure how we'll line up but Powell ahead of Laurent and Baker looks the best midfield we've had since relegation.
If Campbell can get back to form we really should be in the play-off picture in what looks to be a weaker league than last year.

I wonder how much of an extra lift / creative spark / extra something special a team gets when you start building a squad that are made up of really damn good mates. Tye seems super tight with Josh Tymon and Laurent for example. Is this a key part of the crucial dynamic for a team that might get us over the promotion line?
