Few disappointed Reading fans in the replies.
Always a good sign.

I remember we were linked when he was at Shrewsbury. What type of midfielder is he?

Seems like one we’d like to be longer than a 12 month deal. 3 years should see us getting his peak years. Coming off a player of the season from another championship club should be a safeish deal. Wonder if we’re still interested in his oppo Rino?

Two units - would leave a 3rd for up to and we look very different

Cue inevitable YouTube montage.... Would rather see more of him using that physique in general midfield play than him banging them in but he looks like he could handle himself. Looks can be deceiving though we can all remember Choupo and Joselu proper units, proper pussy’s.

Certainly raises biggish questions with Allen now, with Baker, Laurent and Thompson here.
(and Clucas although we must be keen to move him on)

He was at Shrewsbury when Tyresse was on loan there wasn't he? (Sure that's where I 'know' him from. Looked decent then albeit at that level. Didn't realise he'd gone to Reading. We all await bayernoatcake 's verdict of course before endorsing him wholeheartedly.

Interesting article on how tactical guru Paul Ince used him - as a No. 10! thetilehurstend.sbnation.com/2022/4/14/23008382/josh-laurent-reading-fc-unlikely-number-10-royals“Laurent’s not a holding midfielder so to keep holding him back is hard.” That’s interesting given that Laurent is very much known at Reading as being some kind of defensive midfielder, having burst onto the scene early in September 2020 as the deeper of the two in Veljko Paunovic’s double pivot. Although his role has changed over time - increasingly being let off the leash to push forwards in matches last season, sometimes being used as the ‘1’ in front of the back four in a 4-1-4-1 this season and as a box-to-box in that formation at other points - it’s fair to say we regard him as more defensive than offensive. To underline that, he’s even filled in well at points as a centre back when required. So, in respect to Laurent’s Reading career, Ince deploying him as an out-and-out number 10 is innovative. I say Reading career as, to be fair, Laurent has experience as a more advanced midfielder from his Shrewsbury Town days, as Salopcast told us when he signed: “Laurent is a versatile midfielder who can play a number of roles: box to box, attacking midfield and right/left in a front three. I think his best role would be playing in a midfield three, with an emphasis on getting into and around the box.”

I'd be lying if I knew owt about him bar he played for Shrewsbury though.

Fairly certain him and Tyrese comment on each other’s social media posts from time to time, so seem to be mates from the time together at Shrewsbury.
