Yes, it tends to be very tepid, it just means 'soccer' is on 3 rather than 1 of the 26 screens in the sports bars. I'm not surprised they got it though, there is almost no one else left to bank roll the thing other than pariah states in the middle east and the war crimimals and mobsters of Russia. We have crooks in politics too, unfortunately. In fact we have elected more than one to serve as president, including one who was bankrolled by despots and refused to accept the results of an election, and mounted the first invasion of the Capital Building since the War of 1812. Edit: on a lighter note, Arrowhead home of the Kansas City Chiefs is a great stadium and one of loudest in the world - 126 db have been recorded. On the down side it’s hotter than hell in the summer with high humidity. My fondest memory of Arrowhead is seeing Kansas City beat Man Utd. Only a friendly but who cares. A win’s a win. Db levels were achieved by artificial means though.

Please Please not the World Cup in the USA. I find the them an awful host and only the SA world cup has been worse in my time. USA did a great job previously. Managed to get to a few games and was the best been to.

I was at Giants stadium, game in Dallas...trying to remember the other 2. Had tickets for the final but didn't go. Wasn't too upset after seeing it on TV. Pontiac Superdome ....one more. Was a great tournament and games sold out. Final a real let down

This is documented in “Red Card” a great book that I highly recommend. Not surprisingly CONCACAF had offices in Trump Tower and much of the corruption and money laundering was tied back to Russia and Saudi Arabia, leading directly to the World Cup being awarded to Russia and Qatar. I don’t recall there being any involvement of Clinton or Kissinger who were well out of domestic politics at the time. Prosecutions were brought and convictions handed down by the Southern District of New York. Kissinger and Clinton knew shit still do I suppose. I got the wrong impression of Kissinger growing up in England. I have subsequently learnt hemwas actually a very nasty man and war-monger who was behind the carpet bombing and other atrocities in Viet, Laos and Cambodia. Richard Nixon of all people had a hard time keeping him under control. Kissinger wasn’t averse to,using nuclear weapons in Vietnam. Horrible man. Clinton on the other hand (stained dress notwithstanding) will go down as one of best presidents of the 25th century.

Atlanta is pretty much a shoe in. Nashville might be fun. Dallas’s stadium is an obvious. Foxborough of course. The Rose Bowl might be an interesting choice but there are much more modern arena around now. They picked SoFi in Inglewood, home of the Rams, Olympic stadium etc. Bugger that, it's 2 hours by Metro and I can bike to the Rose Bowl so they made the wrong choice. Stupid committee.

If you've never seen The Vietnam War - documentary by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick - it is worth checking out. It's quite an investment however - must be about 20 hours in total. Chilling and horrifying, but one of the best films of any kind I have ever seen. A good illustration of how a regime pursues an unwinnable war for its own political ends. Plus, it has a magnificent soundtrack.

Thought 94’ was pretty good. England not being in it diluted it for a lot of folk though but there were some excellent games. Plus they’ve built a load of new stadiums since.

It helped 😉 but I seem to remember every game sold out. Was a huge crowd at Spain v Saudia Arabia was it? 60k plus. Huge Stoke flag as well I remember. I thought the atmospheres were fantastic at games

Lots of yanks I know won't let their kids start American football because of brain injuries, plus there's the big Latino community. So loads more US lads grow up into nogger nowadays versus 1994.
There could be some proper good atmosphere and there's a mix of cities. I think Nashville, New Orleans or Denver would have been good for variety though.

I followed Italy that time as England not there. As mentioned before American sport and presentation not for me, glad you enjoyed it.

That’s it then Oaties.
Spare bedrooms packed away. Inflatable mattresses I got for y’all are on CraigsBay. My reciprocal invites to the womb of England, strong ale and fine music just a glimmer now.
FIFA eh?

FIFA eh? It's a shame, and not that a trip to Baltimore would not, in itself, be a delight (never been). But I was particularly looking forward to The Wire guided tour, eg the bar where McNulty has his leaving "wake", the DIY store where Snoop buys the nail gun, the gay bar which very briefly has a shot of Rawls, out of uniform. The best TV show of all time. Fact.

Shamefully, I wasn't aware that he also worked with his brother. Funnily enough The Civil War has been on over here recently - and on Council Telly to boot! Turns out Ric was born in Baltimore! They (and Lynn) should be on stamps and banknotes.

The whole sport was new to a lot of fans in attendance and often we would be asked the odd rule by those around us but was great fun.

Some great looking grounds there, the Mercedes Benz must have cost a Bob or two. I do wonder why a lot of stadiums in the US are built with at least one open/semi open end though

Not surprising Cincy didn't get in but Nashville should. Absolute bullshit that Atlanta was considered "Central" so they could give more to the east coast cities.
Closest drive for me now is Atlanta. I might venture down there. Tons of hotels and good MARTA system. Plus the stadium is a walk from downtown.
And 'Boston' getting in is absolute horse shit too. I went to Gillette stadium once. In the middle of nowhere.
