Are any of the other host cities decided? 22 cities in total across the US, Canada and Mexico as a joint bid. Will be paired down to 16. Atlanta is pretty much a shoe in. Nashville might be fun. Dallas’s stadium is an obvious. Foxborough of course. The Rose Bowl might be an interesting choice but there are much more modern arena around now. DC wouldn’t get games (they had a venue last time) so would be an event ‘host’ with games being played at M&T Bank in Balto. Did the opening. Stunning Stadium. There will be 60 matches in the US. Canada and Mexico will host ten each.

No idea why they haven’t considered Michigan Stadium given it’s the biggest in the country?
Perhaps they are concerned about the lack of infrastructure of Ann Arbor? It’s certainly not as equipped for overflow as Dallas, DC, Seattle etc.

Although there's one in Canada that only has a 30k capacity so should be scrapped. The Mexico 3 go from 50k to 88k approx. So if we assume 10 US stadiums then DC as the 8th largest (of 17th) 'should' get in. I can kind of see Boston and Philly being dropped due to their proximity to NY and Washington but for the rest the stadiums all look good and the locations (especially coastal ones) will attract a lot of visitors. It's a tough call and I guess it comes down to whoover has lobbied the most. If both Canada and Mexcico drop 1 stadium each then it would be helpful.

The problem with some large stadia used for American football is the size of the pitch. They are long enough but often too narrow to widen to meet FIFA requirements.

How would it work, would the USA, Mexico and Canada all qualify automatically as hosts? Seems excessive......

They haven’t decided whether all 3 will get automatic bids, but FIFA most likely will give it to them. Also, 48 teams will qualify instead of 32, which ups the number of CONCACAF teams from 4+1 via playoff to 6. So, qualification is about to get easier for everyone.

Baltimore is the only city in the US where I have experienced violent crime first hand. I do not have good memories of that place.

Todays the day we find out if the DC/Baltimore bid wins for 2026. DC as an ‘event’ host with games being played at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore (Ravens Stadium) Watch party on The Mall for the 5pm (Eastern) reveal. Are any of the other host cities decided? FIFA has announced the 16 North American cities that will host matches for the 2026 World Cup, with 11 venues chosen in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada. The 2026 World Cup will be the first tournament hosted by three nations and also the first that will expand to 48 teams in the competition. The cities officially selected to host World Cup matches in the U.S. are: New York/New Jersey (MetLife Stadium), Los Angeles (SoFi Stadium), Dallas (AT&T Stadium), San Francisco Bay Area (Levi's Stadium), Miami (Hard Rock Stadium), Atlanta (Mercedes-Benz Stadium), Seattle (Lumen Field), Houston (NRG Stadium), Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field), Kansas City (Arrowhead Stadium) and Boston (Gillette Stadium). The host of the 1994 World Cup final, the Rose Bowl, was not chosen, with Los Angeles' other venue, SoFi Stadium, being chosen instead. The cities officially selected to host World Cup matches in Mexico and Canada are: Guadalajara (Estadio Akron), Monterrey (Estadio BBVA Bancomer), Mexico City (Estadio Azteca), Toronto (BMO Field) and Vancouver (BC Place). The following candidates missed out on selection: Baltimore/Washington D.C. (M&T Bank Stadium), Orlando (Camping World Stadium), Cincinnati (Paul Brown Stadium), Nashville (Nissan Stadium), Denver (Empower Field at Mile High) and Edmonton (Commonwealth Stadium). The joint bid between Baltimore and Washington D.C. at M&T Bank Stadium was announced this April after FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, dropped out of the running and opted to merge with the Baltimore bid. Under the proposal, there would have been a fan festival on D.C.'s National Mall. With the Rose Bowl not selected, none of the U.S. venues from the 1994 men's World Cup will be utilized for the 2026 edition of the tournament. Mexico City's Estadio Azteca, which hosted the 1970 and 1986 World Cup finals, will be the first stadium to host three men's World Cups. Mexico will also be the first nation to either host or co-host three men's World Cups.

Please Please not the World Cup in the USA. I find the them an awful host and only the SA world cup has been worse in my time. Yes, it tends to be very tepid, it just means 'soccer' is on 3 rather than 1 of the 26 screens in the sports bars. I'm not surprised they got it though, there is almost no one else left to bank roll the thing other than pariah states in the middle east and the war crimimals and mobsters of Russia.

It was all tied in with the Fifa corruption investigation. Despite knowing for many years Fifa is corrupt everyone just moaned about it. The USA got wronged and they actually did something about it and sent the FBI to raid their offices. For the case against Fifa to have continued would've required people like Bill Clinton and Henry Kissinger standing before committees telling what they know and that simply, wasn't going to ever happen. But the Mexican FA were aware of the wrongings and had nothing to gain by staying quiet. To bring the episode to conclusion Fifa suggested they all host 2026 and let bygones be bygones. The USA bid for 2022 was by far the best and would be happening now were it not for the skulduggery

We have crooks in politics too, unfortunately. In fact we have elected more than one to serve as president, including one who was bankrolled by despots and refused to accept the results of an election, and mounted the first invasion of the Capital Building since the War of 1812. Edit: on a lighter note, Arrowhead home of the Kansas City Chiefs is a great stadium and one of loudest in the world - 126 db have been recorded. On the down side it’s hotter than hell in the summer with high humidity. My fondest memory of Arrowhead is seeing Kansas City beat Man Utd. Only a friendly but who cares. A win’s a win.

Not surprisingly CONCACAF had offices in Trump Tower and much of the corruption and money laundering was tied back to Russia and Saudi Arabia, leading directly to the World Cup being awarded to Russia and Qatar. I don’t recall there being any involvement of Clinton or Kissinger who were well out of domestic politics at the time. Prosecutions were brought and convictions handed down by the Southern District of New York.
