Umbro are Burnley's kit manufacturer so they can issue an exact replica right now. Stoke would infringe copyright if they attempted it and would probably be in breach of contract with Macron or any future kit manufacturer, Umbro aside of course.

Attachment DeletedScoredraw have done an Umbro Villa remake with the Trademark diamonds down the sleeves. Villa have just departed from Kappa & signed up to Castore. Obviously a way round kit manufacturer contracts somewhere along the line.

Hummel have done the same with some old Spurs kits, but they're sponsored by Nike.
They're even sold on their official website.

Fair enough. We obviously did the retro shirts off our own back though so wouldn't have been able to reproduce the tops without Umbro's permission to use the diamonds.

Guessing it comes down to costs & the finer details of kit manufacturer contracts. Although you'd of thought it would of been in Umbro's interests to have their branding splashed around on former Umbro kitted clubs, some manufacturers may not approve. Our remaked retro shirts were good but to have had the Umbro branding would have been an awesome job. Umbro are a strange one, they seemed to disappear for abit but over the passed few seasons have made a huge comeback again. Sure I recall they were linked in or swallowed up by Nike for a time, which would make some sense in how all the old England retro Umbro shirts have been released fine despite Nike producing the main kits. Although none of this remakes have the actual Umbro badge on them despite everything else being almost identical.

Remember Gola were big on the boots production scene back in the 70's & 80's aswell. They always seemed something of a lesser make to me.. Then they became retro trendy in the 90's. Remember Stockport, Huddersfield and Barnsley having Gola kits at some time or another.

Nike brought them out and started pushing the brand again, always brought Umbro football boots when they were black they were great.

I don’t believe you can protect an object with a copyright which applies to the written bodies of work. A trademark covers names, logos etc.

Looked to me like they'd run into a chequered shirt hanging from a clothesline at neck height. During the annual "Running of the Bullsh*t" festival.

Remember Stockport, Huddersfield and Barnsley having Gola kits at some time or another. Blasphemy ! I suggest that you take a look at a photo of the worlds, no the universes greatest midfielder Alan Hudson and what adorns his magical feet GOLA with the orange/gold stripes. I had a pair of Gola boots with lime green/yellow stripes, six metal studs and they were absolutely amazing, better than Adidas Muellers or Puma Pele’ I remember George Bests own brand boots and the Alan Ball white boots, but the absolute worst boots were the brainchild of sadist child hater, he patented a idea that the front studs were on a rota so that you could turn quicker to follow play! Which was great on a dry pitch but a literal ankle breaker when you came up against mud, the rotating studs would stick in position whilst the rest of your body had rotated the opposite direction 😦

It's strange how makes & designer labels come & go over time.. Was late 80's I started playing footy properly and I'd of been ripped at school and for my team wearing Gola boots. I wore Hi-Tec boots early on and that was bad enough amongst my Nike and Adidas boot wearing mates! Brand snobbery was definitely a thing even back then! But yeah as you say during the 70's and early 80's Gola were the go to brand. I remember being the butt of jokes when I used to wear my Stoke Hi-Tec tracksuit in the late 80's and Hi-Tec wasn't deemed fashionable either! I didn't care as was always proud to wear my Stoke Merch.. Although sadly that Stoke tracksuit oddly never had thr Stoke badge on 🤨, was one Mick Mills used to wear. Le-Coq sportif and Admiral were big kit suppliers in the 70's & 80's and they both faded away, resurfacing every now and again with random clubs. Umbro seemed to dominate alot of my early football following, think most clubs had kits made by Umbro in the early-mid 80's.

I know this cuz my mum bought me a pair when I made my primary schools football team. I can distinctly remember being so pissed off that I could have cried because I knew that all the other lads had Adidas, Puma or Patrick (remember them)

I remember Kevin Keegan giving Noel Edmonds a free pair live on Swap Shop....good advertising. Gola trainers are quite nice these days.

My mum & dad must of had a special deal with Hi Tec coz I used to parade around in Hi Tec Silver Shadows when my mates were all Nike this, Nike that 😒.. I also remember wearing Fred Perry polo shirts as my games top at school aswell and always thinking that was a cheap make! Always makes me 😃 when I walk passed a Fred Perry designer shop now and see their Polo shirts RRP'n for easily £50+ ..
