Usually it's honey for me, or sometimes it's just butter.

Squashed crumpets on pikelets?? No haha, but that's basically what they are aren't they? I remember Karl Pilkington talking about them when he'd taken them on holiday to Madeira once...

Kerrygold Irish butter and damson jam. I picked up some home made damson jam in a church sale thing in Stafford, first time I've seen it on sale in ages, used to have it a lot as a kid.

The only way worth bothering with. Red hot with lashings of best butter dripping through them 😋

Tried syrup. Very nice! Although for me syrup's special place is on buttered toast, so this probably won't become my favoured topping.🙂

Yes, it’s not easy to find these days, especially in supermarkets. However you can get Tiptree Damson Conserve on Amazon. You can buy 6 jars for about £21 which is a good deal.

It's not bad but it'd take me a long time to get through that much, I'll probably end up chucking half the jar I bought away I'm sure my mom used to buy it from Kwik Save at the bottom of Limekiln and it was called Krakow, long before I knew Krakow was actually a place.

One of the interesting things with preserves is the way they will store in the jar. Even if left till mould it is still perfectly easy to access good product. Because of the way the mold forms it is perfectly acceptable to remove the top layer and you will find perfectly good jam/whatever below.

Experiment #2: I was suspicious of cream on pikelet but had some clotted cream hanging around so gave it a go. Wow that really works! One for the pikelet recipe book.
