looks like Mickleson is being paid $200 million to take part, staggering money. Also look`s like they will all be able to play in the Open and US open. Not sure what receptions those players are likely to get, especially in the states. "In 2015, Forbes estimated Mickelson's annual income was $51 million". So let's suppose he's earned around that for 10 years (at least), it's $510,000,000. And he needs this extra cash. Fuck off.

Still unlikely to be short of a few pounds…

Good luck to them.
I think Golf would be the best sport to be amazing at. Basically it’s all on you but you get to play at these fantastic places, usually in the sun and very rarely in the rain. If you are good you’re going to be paid to show up and raking it in with sponsorship. Nice hotel sorted and again if you’re a better one you’re getting up a bit later than the others.
I am shit at golf though & it’s incredibly frustrating.

Can’t blame them Providing not one single one of them Ever preaches morality to anyone Think that's the point. If Mickelson had said "Actually it's about the money - tons of it - and as we execute people in the US and are also steadily eroding women's rights I don't think we can be any moral compass so pick your bastards" then I guess fair dinkum. But he didn't - he started burbling on about it being 'a force for good' or some such nonsense - and that's pure bollocks which he knows he doesn't believe nor does he really expect anyone else to.. Mickelson has had a beef with the US PGA for a while about their control of the professional game and their restrictive hold on the players. So I will cut him some slack. I don't have a problem with the rest of them going to play on the LIV golf scene and see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to play in the Majors if they satisfy the qualifying criteria. Golfers should be free to play where they want. It reminds me of the Kerry Packer stuff in the 70's/80's. Many people were for protecting the status quo controlled by the cricket boards. Uproar at the time but 10 years later all the cricketers were patting Kerry Packer on the back for increasing exposure and ultimately putting more money in the players pockets. I don't know whether LIV will gain a foothold but I am not too concerned either way. I understand their desire to try something different that will maybe attract more fans.

Crazy times Hopefully the fans will just turn their back on it, it’s nothing without viewers and paying punters…… Sport seems hell bent on changing just to suit tv and casual fans with small attention spans. You can’t beat long format sports that ebb and flow and has a great narrative. Test cricket 72 hole golf TDF etc

They are paying Dustin Johnson $115 million dollars just for turning up and playing. Don`t know what the others are on. That`s 8 tournaments, 3 rounds per tournament instead of 4. They were willing to pay Woods nearly a Billion dollars if the rumours are true. All shot gun starts, so all players start and finish at the same time making it good for TV. A shot gun start is where all players start at different holes on the course at the same time. I doubt anyone would turn that money down if offered. I would like to know what the implications are for the Open, as the USPGA have told players they will not keep their cards if they go to the LIV tour. Interesting times, looks like 3 more yanks are joining the circus. Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas have both turned it down, though obviously we'll have to wait and see what develops as far as they're concerned. Sadly it's the way all sport seems to be going with FIFA handing the World Cup to Qatar right up there with morally bankrupt decisions. I do get a little tired of people comparing situations like this and saying that anyone would double/triple their wages given the opportunity. Yeah, if you're earning twenty, thirty or forty grand a year you would, but the like of Poulter and Johnson are millionaires many, many times over. Just how much money do these bastards need? I hope that they're all excluded from the majors. Not that they'll be bothered, but the Open this year is at St Andrew's, the Home of Golf and is the 150th tournament. Itd be nice not to have these charlatans involved. Bang on with that Dave.

Stenson speaks. Basically, "I'm a greedy, morally bankrupt arsehole, but I do a whole lot of good work for charidee mate."
Yeah, well so did Jimmy Savile.

Is it a Merger or a takeover, time will tell. As others have observed money talks and LIV/PIF seem willing to bung beaucoup $Millions at to and will swamp PGA and DP
A Big Loser seems to be Greg Norman LIV CEO who didn't have any comment today.
Its hard to see how Golfers like Rory walk back their comments on morality

I don't follow golf but can someone explain what this means in really simple terms??? Just means the players will earn more money and be able to play on all 3 tours if they want to, or qualify to. It also means that all the best players in the world will able to play in all Majors and The Ryder Cup (if nationality allows), instead of arguing about whether or not they should. The Saudi money isn't going anywhere, so for the good of the sport going forward, it is the only option.
