Why are people even entertaining the idea of Bale joining us? There's no chance of that. Not even when we were in the Prem. May as well debate how Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Haaland would fit into our squad. Oh, I don't know. I suspect he might be thinking: "What a fantastic career I have had. Only one thing missing from my CV. That's pulling on the red and white stripes at the Bet365. Can't wait to tell Mrs Bale that she's moving from Madrid to the Potteries!".

Well, when you put it like that I can see the appeal. I'm ordering the new kit with 'Bale' on the back. Dead cert.

If there's a BOGOF offer on the shirt, count me in, and especially as Mrs Bale has been seen this am viewing properties on Bentilee and Abbey Hulton. Nailed on I reckon!

Is it daft to suggest he'd be rubbish at this level now? What can he even do? I know he still scores the odd worldie, but imagine he's largely cack given he only plays football once every 3 months.

I think Wales biggest problem in the World Cup will be Bale. He looks finished as an effective footballer and only threat is as a dead ball specialist. He was poor v Ukraine and bar a deflected goal was anonymous.

This thread is funny. It's gone from a ridiculously hypothetical question being asked to people actually genuinely discussing the potential of Gareth Bale signing for Stoke Only on the Oatcake.

God help the reaction on here when Andy Carroll rocks up Be careful what you ask for, he is an available free agent. His goals per game is 2.45 which is very good, if weren’t for the fact he misses more than 50% of games due to injury.

Bale surrounded by a bunch of budget Champo free transfers would be an interesting team Sounds like he was there primarily for fitness work as Cardiff and Wales use the same facility. I’d be surprised if he didn’t go for one last big pay day somewhere before moving to his retirement home.

It was only in March that he single handedly got Wales through the World Cup game v Austria, who are a very decent international side and featured one of the best players ever to play for us imo. He was outstanding in that match, scored two world class goals and played 93 minutes.

Bale's aim (wherever he ends up) is purely to maintain his fitness ready for the World Cup. I can't see him doing anything to risk that, so while he will still take free-kicks and "float" around a bit in midfield, I can see him doing his best Tom Ince impression if any "big nasty" clodhopping defender comes near him.

You just know if he does their first home game will be yours truly with the inevitable 30 yarder thundering into the top corner probably do his knee doing it and not play again

Of course he's good enough for Stoke, today. But for how long? Cardiff is taking a HUGE financial risk, especially with his age and the track-record of injuries in this league. I get it that it's "home" for him and all that, so I don't begrudge them. But I'd pass on assuming a risk like that at Stoke.
I think it's highly likely they'll end up stuck paying an entire mint for a super-sub, or without his services altogether for an extended period. After shaping the team around him, then who would fill in once he's knackered/injured? [buzzer]
When healthy, he will "smoke" the league. But that's "when healthy." We know all about that here.

He made the Austria game into the Gareth Bale Show and they are no mugs.
