Radio Stoke have declared today ‘Robbie Day’. He said some good things about S-O-T, notice some of the haters in the sentinel said he left Stoke as quickly as a ‘bishop at a brothel-raid’ 🤣🤣 Discuss ……..

I met the man himself in the mid to late 90s on New year’s eve in the Cafe de Paris in Leicester Sq and despite me being slightly the worse for wear he couldn’t have been nicer and friendlier despite me telling him I was a Stokie. As they say take as you find.

There can't be many people worth more than £10m living (or even just working) in SOT, let alone people worth well over £100m. Ironically, it's the over-representation of dumb losers with huge chips on their shoulders flinging that sort of shit about, that contributes to making SOT such an unattractive place for the ultra-successful. This city has benefited from RW's success and I don't begrudge it to him for one nanosecond.

He’s proud of his roots and promotes Stoke-On-Trent on a regular basis
That’ll do for me as many in the media and a huge majority on here can’t wait to stick the boot into it
If you are going enjoy it

He’s proud of his roots and promotes Stoke-On-Trent on a regular basis He has never once performed a gig in Stoke. As much as I can’t stand Ed Sheeran, at least he ended his last world tour in his home town.

I’ll pretend I hate him cause he’s a Vale bastard but the truth is I quite like the bloke. Wouldn’t go in a million years but they can have their day in the sun.

What's not to like, Stoke On Trent getting mentioned in a positive light and three charities getting the proceeds.

He's about as Vale as Hyaduck is a fan of our green kit to be fair. Same with the Oasis guy who admitted not going to a game all season because the opposition wasn't great when he was available to go then turns up for the final day v QPR etc.

That’s good to know. Would have been nice if he’d played there when he was in his prime mind. Why? Would you have gone? I wouldn’t personally as I’m not a fan of his music. But he was a megastar back in the day and someone of that status coming back to perform in the town of his birth would have meant a lot. It’s great he’s performing tonight, but his star has waned.

I don't know but I suspect when he was at his peak EMI were calling the shots on where and when he played - the big focus of his deal being 'cracking' the US- and Stoke doesn't tend to attract too many megastar concerts of any description. So it's probably only now he gets to indulge. I'm not a fan of his music either but he seems a decent enough fella - a regular visitor to family who remained in the area when his career took him to LA. Arnold Bennet fucked off when he was 21 and never came back - but no-one gives him a rough ride.

I'm not a great fan of most of his music but he has turned out a few songs that I like. Apart from that, he's just a Stoke-on-Trent lad done good and unlike some, he doesn't spend all his time saying what a shithole we are. He's back home doing a gig for three of our local charities and not for the life of me can I understand why anybody would criticise him. Well done lad and I hope your gig is a great success.
OS.

He's also personally given The Vagrants a fuckload of cash ahead of this gig (but I understand that it's been kept on the downlow). Not a fan of his output by any means but I don't really understand how anyone can put him or what he's achieved down. The club he supports and all of their followers can kiss my sweaty fucking balls though 👍
