RIP Lester.
He had a unique empathy with race horses. A child prodigy who became a lifetime prodigy.
I remember watching horse racing on TV with my father Saturday pms and he would point out to me Lester was "waiting in front" leading a race, gradually raising the pace, knowing he was on the best mount, and then easing away from the rest of the field to win. He did it time without number.
He had a phenomenal record in jump racing before he stopped and stuck to flat racing, as well as a phenomenal flat racing record.

A difficult man , a man with an unbelievable will to succeed. The greatest flat jockey of all time. He could win on a Blackpool donkey. A true sporting legend. RIP Lester

Total legend and Unique in so many ways
Favourite story about him One day he was riding a Horse for a famous breeder of Champion Terriers who let it be known that if he won on her horse she would give him a puppy On hearing this Piggott's response was "he'd rather have a monkey (£500)
