Ukraine was always going to win so I backed them at 6/5 a couple of months ago. Sam sang very well and would have won in normal times. Same got them at evens couldn't believe the price at the time. Must admit I was sweating a little before the televote results came in!

Well a victory in all but name. Yep, the best result all round really. It's ridiculously political still (Russian friend Serbia's people begrudgingly gave Ukraine a 7!)but as long as it's seen as just a bit of light entertainment, who cares. I felt sorry for any epileptics watching. Poor bastards wouldn't have been watching for long!

The UK will no doubt host next year's show in solidarity with Ukraine unless some miracle happens.

Yes, I wondered the same. Hopefully, Ukraine is in a fit condition and free to do the hosting but if not the UK would seem a fitting choice.

The UK’s second place possibly another? A reward for being at the forefront in support for Ukraine? I’m not undermining the song which seemed fair enough (although there have been many much better “space man” songs over the years albeit not Eurovision songs), but Eurovision success has always needed something else increasingly so this century with that “neighbour” effect you mention.

Definitely our support of Ukraine helped for instance Ukraine gave the UK maximum 12 points and I was surprised that we received points from some(or most) countries who normally give us nothing. Now I'd add that Sam sung a "better" song than previous years and so that could be the reason for points but imho it was a "reward" for our stance on Russia and Putin.

I think the UK was being touted last night as the host country for the next show, however it would be an amazing response to hold it somewhere in Ukraine to show "Europe" are united in support for Ukraine and rub Putins nose in it.

Have to say if I could have got a bet. Specially at evens. I’d have been on the Ukrainians.
Over here they’ve just started an ‘equivalent’ with each State putting up a song and singer for a US contest.
Not even heard of most of the acts and some of the songs are a crime. IMHO of course.

So we're not hated over Brexit then?
Perhaps we just entered a decent song for once!

I think Putin would get over it to be fair I sure he would but its all about propaganda and humiliation aswell as showing solidarity with Ukraine. But it's Eurovision. I remember when Ireland didn't want it due to costs and entered an awful song that amazingly won so they held it in a small town in Cork instead of Dublin Parodied in Father Ted of course. See your point to be fair

This Scottish Green fella also thinks the UK benefited from its support of Ukraine. The only thing is, it ain’t certain if he thinks this is a good or bad think. I do though get a hint of redwhinenblue type whineiness in his tweet, but perhaps that is a little unfair (on this green fella I mean). Edit… just in case you were wondering what Ross Greer looks like (or is this redwhinenblue?) Attachment Deleted

Interesting where will it be held next year Always on the cards really, did anyone properly believe Ukraine would be able to host it. Wonder which city will be chosen, London is the obvious one - but could they go rouge and pick another? Manchester perhaps? That's convenient for the BBC if it's there

Congratulations to Liverpool. 😄 Nice touch, thankfully some people can still laugh at themselves Easy way of differentiating ourselves from the Welsh and Southern England in fairness. We're also taught from a young age we have to internally quality control the idea before going public and execute it correctly or else risk being mistaken for Geordies. 😉
