Full game here. Never gets boring. Nzonzi and Whelan were different class that day. Possibly Adam Lallana's worst day in football

For me this was the pinnacle of my time as a Stoke supporter. It might not have won us a trophy, got us promoted or taken us to Wembley etc but to beat a full strength Liverpool team 6-1 in a league game totally on merit with no fluke was something I never thought I'd see as a kid growing up watching Stoke being shit in the 90s. We were good enough to go toe to toe with the biggest and best teams in the country, just like we had in the 70s in the stories my parents had told me over and over again. For a very brief moment, we had a team that was probably top 6 standard and had that team we finished the season with been together for a whole season we might have been able to challenge the top teams like Leicester have been able to do. Probably a top striker away from a top 4 challenge, that's what Leicester managed to get with Vardy, but that team could have challenged for top 6 with a bit of luck.
Unfortunately from this point onwards we made wrong decision after wrong decision with recruitment and we blew all the potential of the team and the elevated prestige we had at the time which made us attractive to previously unobtainable players. We probably had little choice on losing N'Zonzi but his attempted replacement, Imbula failed miserably and each signing we made after that just seemed to get worse and worse and heaped more problems onto the issues we already had.

I look back at this game now and get a feeling of what could of we achieved with the right recruitment.
I left the Brit that day with a feeling of something special was going to happen for us Stoke supporters.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be especially shit.

Full game here. Never gets boring. That was great suitcase. I normally don't watch reruns of old matches but it's like watching a fairy tale. To think we had days like that is unbelievable now. I do wonder from just reading the Sawyers Collins thread how much of a toxicity may have developed between fans and the players which may be holding back any progress. I read an interesting bbc write-up today of Everton's recent win over Chelsea and how much the fans and atmosphere is helping despite being at the wrong end of the table.

The booing of Chester as he came on as sub vs Coventry was stupid and crass. He may be a mediocre player but imagine how he felt as he ran on the pitch. I know people have justified the booing saying it was the coach they were booing not the player. Well, I’m sorry, but that would not be going through Chester’s mind would it?

I hope we all enjoyed and savoured that day because that was probably as good as we will ever see in our lifetimes. It's easy to forget just how good we were for a short period in my Stoke supporting life. I'm as guilty as anyone of this because I still can't forgive Hughes for what he did to us, but on the flip side of this we were brilliant to watch at times under his stewardship

Even more enjoyable with a Lpool fan in disguise sitting in front of us for Stevie G's farewell, standing up to politely clap as the fifth went in. A screen background for a while, shared with a surprising number of LP fans Attachment Deleted

The Liverpool game was literally on another level though.

After the game l thought N'Zonzi had been the outstanding player but when l watched it back Glen was just phenomenal. (Douffy wasn't so bad either, was he?)

While we are clearly clubs of very different statures , the story of both clubs that since that day is a staggering condemnation of what’s gone on at our club given the resources available , theirs is one of punching beyond even their enormous weight at the highest level driven by focussed brilliant off fieid , and team management and brilliant recruitment . Had we done the same europa league , top 10 and May be even a cup would / should have been our fate .
the golden age squandered
