That seems to be a prevailing sentiment among the pro WFHs. I’m all right Jack. But work is about the collective. So, while folk focus on what suits them as the singular (appropriately!) consideration they seem to ignore other factors particularly team work and how team dynamics benefit everyone. "I'm alright Jack" seems to the common theme on both sides of the argument though, the employers with big expensive office space, the politicians pushing for people to get back into the office whilst holding consultancy roles at property companies, the businesses that rely on footfall to succeed. Someone wanting to make a positive step towards their work/life balance is no different, looking after themselves and their family albeit I would argue for far more scrupulous reasons. The lazy argument I don't buy, done properly it is no different to managing an employee in the office, it's about that individuals role and if the output matches the requirements. I have staff that work from home and if they were taking the piss I'd soon know about it. There is a perfectly happy medium for a lot of businesses which is hybrid working, downsizing office space or using working "hubs" for team meetings/gatherings. For those businesses that are unwilling to adapt they may see their roles becoming less attractive down the line, only time will tell....... Self interest does seem a big motivator. So what's new! The polarisaton and general simplification of the discussion doesn't help. Again what's new. The thing is this is a complex subject as highlighted in a few messages on this thread with potentially significant ramifications down the line - particularly in terms of where jobs might ultimately end up as well as in the development of young people. Anyway, your point is absolutely correct; there will be some form of hybrid working model moving forward.

Working from home is great until firms realise this working in front of a computer can be done from Bangladesh at a quarter of the cost
It’s ok to a certain degree but not full time as eventually that’s how it will go
Me ….I’ve got to go in

There's plenty of room for a hybrid model that suits some employers/employees. Others have to go in, but there's no reason why there still shouldn't be a radical change in terms of flexible working, 4 day week or whatever it may be Again it won't suit every sector but there's plenty where these types of initiatives work well for both parties......

Oh I don’t disagree mate I’m just playing devils advocate One good thing is pre covid if the weather was bad you either had to lose a days pay ( or pay it back ) or take a days holiday Now you just turn the computer on at home …..unfortunately I can’t 😊

I WFH 3 days a week and out for the other 2 days. Suits me perfectly. What gets me is when Mrs Orbs comes home from work and expects the tea to be ready and all the tidying etc done. ‘I’m still at work, I’m just doing it at home!’ (Having said that it’s difficult to skip Homes under the hammer don’t you think?) I had this at first from my Mrs when I started at home, there was this half expectation that certain things got done around the house just because I was in, which isn't the case when I am working solid. I said in the end, treat it as if I was at the office, the same amount of nothing at home will get done in work time! I also get this where’s my tea, I’ve not tidied up, put the washing out, fetched in on time, changed the dogs water, hoovered up, dusted, made the beds but the thing that really does my head in is the dishes, I’m not running a bowl of hot water for two cups, apparently I’m not putting the toilet seat up also .... I can see it now in the many Teams/Zoom meetings I have, where is he, oh he said he’s just putting the washing out you’ll have to give him ten minutes or so🤡🤡

Worked from home since the late 90's back when we had dial up internet. I manage a US national team across 4 time zones so there is no need for me to go into an office but I do like having the option to go in when I like. The workplace has irreversibly changed post-covid and Luddites like the mayor of NY, Boris Johnson and JRM clearly have ulterior motives.
