Why positive? Because they are trying to help the journalists with what he is saying? I can get that. But Christ it is cringe 😂 ""Psychologists theorise that people do this sort of thing for a number of reasons but [it is] mainly to make themselves understood and to make themselves more likeable." Douglas says that, most often, people will do this subconsciously - and it is likely that this is what was going on in Barton's case. "It's unlikely that he's doing this with the conscious goal to be liked - or to offend anyone. [But] this is one of the perhaps unintended effects," she says. Kim Stephenson, a researcher on the impact of accents, says Brits tend to take one of two approaches - they go "very, very English" or they adopt the accent they are hearing around them. He says mostly it is well-meaning and perhaps out of a feeling of self-consciousness that they do not know the language. In short, they overcompensate - hence the mimicking." Weird that Joey Barton was doing that then 😉

The more I think about this the more compelling it seems, even if it only lasted a couple of years. Just imagine passion, aggression, players prepared to commit to the cause instead of the dull grey non entity club we’ve become in the last few years. He could really make the stadium a place to be feared again.

Why not go for someone who has achieved more and has less baggage? Looks like Watford are going for Edwards from FGR. Look at MKD, Cheltenham, Exeter, Cambridge etc before that clown. New favourite for Burnley Tbf he's done well wherever he has gone. I want him to go there now just for the carnage it would cause.

Main Asset: Good coach - at least at the level he has managed. Main Downside: Short fuse. The fact that Burnley are looking at him (apparently) suggests that he is rated within the game.

Vincent Kompany would be a shrewd move for a club at our level.
