Am I missing something here? He got a team promoted that he failed to prevent getting relegated the previous season. In third place. 2 point above the Vale.
It doesn't read like the stuff of legend, or is there some important context I'm missing?

Too much bad publicity. How many assault trials has he been in? No thanks.

No. I think James McClean taught us that it's better for everybody's sanity and the club's reputation to steer clear of players and managers who bring a lot of very public baggage with them. Or is Barton a changed man? How come he did a respectable job in the Third Division but could then only get a job in the Fourth Division? He had the job in the Third but they were relegated last season..... that's how he "only" got a job in the Fourth

does seem a bit of a 'colourful' character but doesn't bother me really if I thought he could do a decent job for us but not sure he could

You’d go for Rob Edwards before him… if you’re using League 2 success as a yardstick.
And if that didn’t work out, next in line would be Matt Taylor.
That said, I’d not want Joey Barton in a country mile of Stoke.

No! Not because of his violent history, more because he’s completely untried outside of the lower leagues.

There ain't going be a vacancy. We've just renewed 2 players contracts who are in the managers plans.

Do we not have any decency left?
Not at my great club.
How about Rolf Harris as official club artist? He can sure paint and we can ignore his “baggage”. 🙄

I get why people might be pissed off MON, it's been a really disappointing season after initially promising so much........
But Joey Barton? FFS lads, get a grip.

Is that mysterious massive goal swing today a bit fishy, given relegated Scunthorpe played a team of kids including a 17-year old goalkeeper? They’re just planning for next season aren’t they? They have every right to pick who they want. If that’s all it is then yeah, fine… If that’s all it is…

I'm just invariably suspicious when a club needs a massive, unlikely goal swing to achieve something and gets it... Probably is nothing, looks like Scunthorpe have been playing the kids for the last few games since they were relegated.

And I’ve watched a few of Rovers’ games and they play some decent stuff.

He gets results, he brings players on Peoples thoughts? Anything just to refresh things, he certainly wouldn’t take us backwards that’s for sure. The problem with Stoke is that we don’t think success is for us and, well we are where we are.

He was a sweet and tender hooligan and of course he'll never ever ever do it again.
He's clearly a good coach, but its only a matter of time before the bad bits come through.

There ain't going be a vacancy. We've just renewed 2 players contracts who are in the managers plans. That's true and MON's hip op was timed so he'd be fit and ready to go after a short holiday for the pre-season work. It's fun to speculate but any change now would be sudden and unplanned. Say were Klopp to come knocking saying he has always had an insatiable affection for this football club :-)

Joey Barton, and his coaching team, have improved the individual performances of almost every Bristol Rovers player this season. He did a similar job, over a longer period, at Fleetwood. Without doubt he has improved the two Stoke players that he loaned from us. I have watched the vast majority of this season's home games at Stoke, and I can see very little improvement in the vast majority of players. Sadly, I see little hope for any success in the future with MON. I would welcome the appointment of Joey Barton as our new manager.

Interesting just because he's a name that his stock seems higher than the FGR and Exeter manager who's teams both finished above them. Unbelievable last day but apparently Scunthorpe fielded a kids team and it stank to high heaven like 1978 Argentina 6 Peru 0.
Its a no from me.

For one the players wouldn’t get away with pissing about, secondly I can guarantee you ON will get worse, there’s nothing to this bloke I like now, the nice guy tag has completely worn off it’s a results business not a popularity contest.
