It’s an area that’s been awfully neglected for some time now and in truth Davies was poor.
If you look at Bursik, Bonham and Davies collectively you couldn’t make a good keeper out of them together.
The GK situation at the club says it all to me, let’s just try and get by and hope nobody notices.

Clearly not good enough yet. It's worrying that his shot stopping is so poor as that's really the bread and butter for any goalkeeper. stuff like distribution, decision making, dealing with crosses and high balls are the sorts of things young keepers tend to get better at with age, but stopping shots is such a fundamental skill that you can't afford to play anyone who is so poor at it. We have to sign an experienced goalkeeper, keep Bonham as back-up and get Bursik out on loan for at least a season. League Two might be about his level at the moment. I remember Haugaard being one of the worst shot stoppers I can remember seeing. It felt like the ball was rippling the net by the time he’d reacted. At the time people said “he’s young” but it’s the one attribute like you say that is more instinct than experience. And FWIW, Haugaard is 29 now and has made <100 professional appearances (including 5 in the premiership for us) and is plying his trade in obscure Scandinavian leagues. I hope my eye test proves to me I know fuck all but it was obvious Haugaard wasn’t going to be good enough. Bursik needs to be on loan to league one or league two even. I just hope the people highly rating Bursik know more than me.

Adam Davies was a disaster too, but people keep saying we should never have sold him.
Numerous games this season he was at fault. Preston away, Blackburn and Bournemouth at home, all games where he let in very soft goals. He was nervy and just not what we needed.
We have just had a nightmare in the goalkeeping position, none of the 3 have been up to the required standard. Our keepers have lost us points & with a quality keeper we’d probably be on the brink of the play offs (not that we have really deserved to be).

dataviz.theanalyst.com/season-reviews/2021/?competition_id=10&season_id=2021Never sure how reliable those keeper metrics are, but in terms of Goals Prevented, which appears to be the total of goals that a keeper is expected to have conceded based on the quality of the shots that they've faced. Of all the keepers who've played at least 25% games for a club in the Championship this season, Davies is 18th best, Bonham is 23rd and Bursik is 36th. So, while Bursik does bring other qualities, it does indicate we've got a problem.

It’s rare for Stoke to be struggling on the keeper front isn’t it? Why did Andy Quy leave as it seems to coincide with the downward trend of our keepers performances.

Should be the first signing of the summer for me.
Always build from the back.
Is there a Steve Simonsen out there?!

Agreed there doesn't seem to be a lot of confidence from the defence towards our goalkeeper. Reminds me of the situation we had with Butland when his head appeared to go a few seasons ago.We need to address the keeper, right back position and find a reliable partner for Souttar when he is able to return.

I'd go balls deep for Sam Johnstone from WBA.
Out of contract too which would fit in well

Because who would want to come to this absolute cesspit of a club with a manager that would coach every single scrap of talent out of you.

Keeper is the one position you can take a lower league punt surely!
The forwards might find the corners a bit more in the championship and be better at one on ones but the basics are the same.
Probably over simplifying it a bit but is a high performing league one keeper still likely to be good in the championship?

Foster seems pissed off at Watford, could we afford him?

He isn't good enough yet for sure. I could have saved their goal on Saturday. Another in a long line of keeping errors this season.

I didn't mean in Tape Street, more that way... Got an ex Captain across the Road here, but I won't give anything further away. And I'm not sure Steven Tweed counts....

Not really... You said "yeah, he'll be chomping at the bit to come here"... Detecting a huge amount of sarcasm... So should we just not to try sign anyone then? Not at all, that would be mental. You mentioned going "balls deep for Sam Johnstone" who is West Broms number 1 keeper and was an England squad member very recently. Little bit fanciful don't you think? Even if you take away the fact that we can't go balls deep for anyone, it's still a completely unrealistic suggestion for us to be signing one of the leagues supposed best keepers. If ever a post proves that many fans simply cannot grasp where we are as a football club and still have unrealistic expectations then this conversation seals it for me.

If we were genuinely after another keeper I would be amazed if we didn't at least ask the question. If we are making as much progress as a lot of people on here trying to make out then it should be an easy sell for him as we will be in the Premier League next year anyway there's no point if I said that we will get him but we should at least try.

I strongly suspect this is a similar case to Joe Allen- i.e. a player in the Champ but still pulling in a Premier League wage based on his now expiring contract. So it is now down to who is willing to give him a decent wedge and we are now a team that is trying to get the wage bill down. We ain't going to give Joe Allen the supposed £50K a week to renew, possibly offer him £20K and then up to him where he goes/if he can get more elsewhere or can be bothered to move for money. Ditto we ain't going to throw Sam Johnstone more than £20K a week and the likelihood is that he will go somewhere in the Premier League even as a back up on significantly more that that...

What's Lee Grant up to these days ? No kidding! Talk about stepping up for us. He's a reserve keeper at Manure and his contract I believe runs out this year. They've already extended his contract once.

Depending on how Burnley finish I'd be interested in either of their current backups, ie Hennessey and Peacock Farrell.
